The balance sheet and its structure

The Concept of “balance” in the Russian language – borrowed and comes from the French “balance”, which literally means “scale”. Hence the definition of balance with respect to economic content is generalized information about the status of the assets and liabilities of the enterprise or organization, as well as data on sources of their formation at a particular time or over any particular period.

The structural balance consists of separate articles, which reflects the metric values of assets and liabilities within the established units of measurement. These values characterize the value of the assets of the company or organization, and indicate the sources of their origin. In the balance sheet responsible for drafting officials, as a rule – the accountants enter the data on the movement of funds. These records are made in strict accordance with the prescribed system of accounts.

After the recording, all the articles are grouped and the resulting groups form the sections, which reflect the movement of funds of enterprises for respective categories: purpose, urgency and turnover. To more fully and clearly present the situation with the financial state of the organization or enterprise, the balance sheet displays the data two series of values.

Some indicators reflect the financial condition of the company at the beginning of the reporting period (financial or calendar year), others contain information for the current reporting period.
