Editions of the shipbuilding faculty of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute to implement such an ambitious program was not enough. 26 April 1930 the Supreme Council of National Economy issued order No. 1257 on the organization of the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute (the future Saint-Petersburg marine technical state University) on the basis of the Shipbuilding faculty of Polytechnic Institute.
In the history Spbgmtu the most active period began in 1930, when it created an independent Maritime University – Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute (LCI). Due to the severe shortage of engineers and shipbuilders in those years, every graduate had to start doing a serious job on the design and construction of ships. They began working in factories and in design offices long before release.
The First years graduates «Korabelny" (SPb) was transferred from the number of students admitted by another Department of the Institute. Since 1934 began the editions engineers whose education took place entirely in the LCI. Among them, future Minister of the Shipbuilding industry B. E. Butoma, chief designers distinguished vehicles S. N. Kovalev, N. N. Isanin, V. V. Burachek, NV. P. Dubinin, L. L. Ermash, E. I. Yukhnin.

The Shipbuilding faculty was headed by Nikolai Kazan (1886-1959), and Engineering – Professor Vladimir K. Vasilyev (1886-1983).
The Maritime University of St. Petersburg is proud of the exploits of their predecessors. Students and staff of LCI are directly involved in the defense of the city. More than 1,000 people joined the 264th battalion. In mid-September 1941, volunteers with the support of regular units of the two weeks to repel the German divisions,supported by aircraft and armored vehicles. Unfortunately, almost all fighters were killed. Their vitality allowed them to win time to strengthen the defensive lines and the construction of fortifications. In 1930, the Institute of land was placed for rent on (Gorky) Avenue. In 1931, the University was given 2 floor in the house № 3 on Pilot street. After the war, thanks to the efforts of the rector E. V. Tolstyh the Institute has greatly expanded. In 1962 started the construction of the complex (reminiscent of ocean liner) in the Ulyanka, which today is the parent for the Saint-Petersburg marine technical state University.
Actively developed General Engineering faculty (first as a set, ensuring consistency of education for the lower classes, and then as an independent teaching and research center), faculty of Science and Humanities education (FANGO). On this basis he LCI in the 1990s transformed the Maritime University of St. Petersburg. Virtually all major Department FENGO steel manufacturing. And today there are serious scientific research.
