Backgammon – is a game which involves 2 people. It requires to have a special Board, divided into two parts, checkers and dice (dice). The aim of the game is to pass the checkers around the Board. To do this, throw the bones, which drop out points, and depending on the dropped points to move the checkers on the Board.

People have been playing backgammon for about 5 000 years. This game is very long ago we came from the East, and the popularity of this leisure activity has fluctuated, experiencing the UPS and downs. In the middle ages, backgammon was very popular and was called trick-track. Rules of backgammon (long) remained almost unchanged, but the rules of backgammon Edmond Hoyle established in 1743. Today they are very popular among Russians and citizens of CIS countries, I love this game and in Iran, Syria, Turkey and Israel. Regularly between the fans of this game are all kinds of tournaments and competitions.

Rules of backgammon defined by the following items:

  • Rectangular Board with 24 points, 12 on each side. The item is a triangle with base on the side;
  • A house called 6 points in a row, located in one of the corners of the Board;
  • The Board is divided in half by a vertical line, called a bar;
  • Each player has 15 checkers of the same color;
  • The game uses one pair of dice (Zaroff).

Rules for playing backgammon (long and short):

  • Each player goes in turn;
  • Checkers go in a circle, and each player has their direction of travel;
  • First played the first move with the roll of the dice. Starts whoever has the winning number is more. With equal fallen bones spread account;
  • Each turn begins with a dice roll on one free side of the bar. If the bones were outside the bar or on the sword, or rose unevenly, we must re-throw;
  • One piece can make from one to four moves;
  • If the dice points don't allow you to make a move for his sword or an empty cell, the course is truncated.
  • In the event that the number of points of both bones, the use of more points of one bone;
  • When all the checkers are in the “the house”, the next moves they are derived from “home”.

Rules of backgammon is determined by the initial position of the checkers on the Board. The one who brought the first checkers of “home” is the winner. Option “draw” in the backgammon completely eliminated. The winner is always determined in the final. For winning the winner can receive up to 4 points.

The Rules of the game in the long backgammon mainly consist of the above items. In addition, it is impossible to put the own checker on the checker of another player; can move any quantity of checkers; the points on the bones are not cumulative; if on the bones no valid moves, then the move is ignored, because it is not allowed to build an impassable barrier. In addition, the rules of the game in the long backgammon is that the player must move the checkers in the same direction one behind the other counterclockwise. The game takes place at the previously determined rate, which is given for points won. The situation when a player manages to remove their checkers at the same time as the second player already did it is called “Mars”. In this case, the rate is doubled.

Rules of backgammon have the following differences:

  • The checkers are moved towards each other;
  • In short backgammon, it is possible to knock all the checkers of the other player;
  • Position at which to start the game more complex;
  • “building” of the player is 6 and 1 positions and “courtyard” player – 12 and 7 and his opponent – 19 and 24, 13 and 18.

Rules of backgammon also lies in the fact that the checkers are arranged in this way: the player has 2 checkers on the 24 point, 5 – in paragraph 13, 3 – 8 and 5 checkers in point number 6. The enemy checkers are the opposite. Perhaps, you will like this fascinating game, the more that the rules of backgammon are simple.
