Suvorov Avenue is one of the main thoroughfares of St. Petersburg, extending to the square of the Proletarian Dictatorship. The highway built in the mid XVIII century. Street began at the “Elephant yard” on the site where today is located the hotel «October».
Houses are numbered on the street of Nevsky Prospekt. At the end of the eighteenth century Suvorov Avenue was a country road leading to the river. In 1900, a hundred years since the death of A. V. Suvorov, in honor of the commander on the street in the Ivory Academy of the General staff of the temporary Museum was opened. Today here is the Military Academy of communications. In 1904 close to this prospect at No. 41-6 on Kirochnaya street was created a permanent Museum. it was at that time the highway was called Suvorovsky prospect. Part of the modern highway from 9-th Sovetskaya street to the Smolny Palace for some time was called "passing to the Smolny monastery." In the 19th century the street was called differently. From 1923 to 1944, the street was called the Soviet prospectus, in connection with the fact that its direction was to the Smolny Institute, which housed the Petrograd Soviet. On his way Suvorovsky Prospekt SPb intersects with almost 20 streets, including nine Soviet. Development prospect is actively carried out at the junction of the 19th and 20th centuries. He is one of the most important thoroughfares of St. Petersburg, which connects the square of the Proletarian dictatorship from the Smolny Palace and the area of the Rebellion.
