We All know that in the October revolution and the ensuing Civil war to power in Russia came the Bolshevik party which, under various fluctuations of its General line remained the leadership almost until the collapse of the USSR (1991). The official historiography of the Soviet era instilled in people the idea that it is the power which enjoyed the greatest support of the masses, while all other political organizations in one way or another sought to the revival of capitalism. It is not so. For example, the party of socialist-revolutionaries stood on a strong platform, compared to which the position of the Bolsheviks at times looked relatively peaceful. At the same time the social revolutionaries criticized “fighting force of the proletariat” led by Lenin for usurpation of power and the oppression of democracy. So what kind of party this was?
Of Course, after many of the artistic images created by the masters «socialist realist art" of the ominous looked in the eyes of the Soviet people the party of socialists-revolutionaries. SRS remembered when the story was about the attempt on Lenin in 1918, the murder of Uritsky, the Kronstadt rebellion (the rebellion) and other unpleasant for the Communists facts. Everyone thought that they “poured water on a mill" counter-revolution, sought to strangle the Soviet power and physically remove the Bolshevik leaders. At the same time somehow forgotten that this organization was led by a powerful underground struggle with the “Imperial satraps", spent an incredible amount of terrorist acts in the period of the two Russian revolutions, and during the Civil war caused a lot of troubles to the White movement. This ambiguity has led to the fact that the party of the social revolutionaries turned out to be hostile almost all the warring parties, engaging with them in temporary alliances and terminated them in order to achieve their own independent goals. What it was? This is impossible to understand without reading the party program.

It is believed that the establishment of the socialist revolutionary party occurred in 1902. This is in some sense true, but not quite. In 1894 the people of the Saratov society (underground, of course) has developed its own program that is a bit more radical than previously. A couple of years left in production programs, to move it abroad, publishing, printing flyers, delivering them to Russia and other manipulations associated with the appearance on the political firmament of the new force. Then at first a small circle is headed by a Argunov, who renamed it, calling ‘Union of socialists-revolutionaries”. The first step of the new party was the creation of branches and to establish with them stable relationships, which seems quite logical. Offices were established in major cities of the Empire – Kharkov, Odessa, Voronezh, Poltava, Penza and, of course, in the capital, St. Petersburg. Crowned the process of party building that appears printed on. The newspaper “Revolutionary” was published program. This paper heralded the fact that the establishment of the socialist revolutionary party was a fait accompli. It was in 1902.
Any political force operates under the program. In this document taken by a majority of the constituent Congress declared aims and methods, allies and opponents, the main driving forces behind and the obstacles to be overcome. In addition, specify the principles of management, governing bodies and membership criteria. The socialist objectives of the party was formulated as follows:
1. The establishment in Russia of a free and democratic state with a Federal structure.
2. Giving all citizens equal suffrage.
3. The Declaration and observance of the rights and freedoms of conscience, press, speech, unions, associations, etc.
4. The right to free education.
5. The abolition of the armed forces as a permanent state structures.
6. Cosmicboy working day.
7. The separation of Church and state.
There were a few items, but overall they largely repeated the slogans of the Mensheviks, the Bolsheviks and other organizations, also sought to capture power, as well as SRS. The program of the party declared the same values and aspirations.
Community structure were apparent in the hierarchy described by Statute. The form of government of the socialist revolutionary party included two levels. Conventions and Advice (misjustice period) took strategic decisions that were executed of the Central Committee, which was considered by the Executive body.
At the end of the XIX century Russia was a predominantly agrarian country in which the peasantry constituted the majority of the population. Class the Bolsheviks in particular and the social Democrats generally considered backward politically exposed private-property instincts, and took the poor parts of a role as the closest ally of the proletariat, the driving force of the revolution. A few had a different view on this issue SRS. The party program included socialization of the land. It was not about to nationalize it, that is the transition to state ownership, but not the distribution of its workers. In General, according to the socialist-revolutionaries, a true democracy would come from out of town to the village, and Vice versa. Therefore, private ownership of agricultural resources should have cancel the sale and ban their transfer to the local authorities, who will distribute all the “good” according to customer standards. All together it was called "socialization" of the earth.
Interestingly, declaring the village a source of socialism, the party of socialist-revolutionaries treated by its inhabitants quite carefully. Do the peasants have never been particularly political literacy. What to expect it of them, the leaders and ordinary members did not know the lives of the villagers was alien to them. SRS "sick soul" for the oppressed people and, as often happens, I thought I knew how to make him happy, better him. Their participation in the councils that emerged during the First Russian revolution, strengthened the influence in the peasant and working environment. As for the proletariat, and to it was critical. Overall operating weight was considered amorphous, and should put a lot of effort to pull it together.
The Party of socialist-revolutionaries in Russia became known already in the year of its creation. The Minister of the interior Sipyagin was shot by Stepan Balmashev, and organized the murder of Mr. Gershuni, who led the military wing of the organization. Then there were a lot of terrorist attacks (the most famous of them are considered successful assassination attempt on S. A. Romanov, uncle of Nicholas II, and Minister Plehve). After the revolution, the party of the left SRS continued killer list, its victims were many of the leaders of the Bolsheviks, which were observed significant differences. The ability to organize the attacks and reprisals against separate opponents with the SDP could not compete no political party. SRS really eliminated the Petrograd Cheka leader Uritsky. As for the attack at the Michelson factory, the story is vague, but completely exclude their involvement impossible. But on the scale of mass terror of the Bolsheviks was far away. However, perhaps if they came to power…
A legendary Personality. Yevno Azef led the military organization and, as was conclusively proven, he collaborated with the detective Department of the Russian Empire. And most importantly – in both these, very different goals and objectives, the structures they were very happy. Azef organized a number of terrorist attacks against representatives of the Royal administration, but handed the secret service a huge number of fighters. Only in 1908 he exposed his SRS. Which party will tolerate in its ranks a traitor? The Central Committee issued a verdict-death. Azev was almost in the hands of his former comrades, but he was able to deceive them and escape. As he did so, not entirely clear, but the fact remains: until 1918 he lived and died not from poison, a noose or a bullet, but from kidney disease, which “earned” in a Berlin prison.
The Party of socialist-revolutionaries attracted many adventurers in spirit, seeking the point of application of their criminal Talanov. One of them was Boris Savinkov, who began his political career as a liberal, then joined the terrorists. The party of social-revolutionaries joined a year after its creation, was the first Deputy Asef participated in the preparation of many terrorist attacks, including the most resonant, sentenced to death, and fled. After the October revolution fought against Bolshevism. Claimed to be the Supreme power in Russia, cooperated with Denikin, was acquainted with Churchill and Pilsudski. Savinkov had committed suicide after his arrest by the Cheka in 1924.
Grigory Andreyevich Gershuni was one of the most active members of the military wing of the socialist revolutionary party. He directly supervised the execution of terrorist acts, in respect of the Minister Sipyagin, the attempted assassination of the Governor of Kharkiv Obolensky, and many other actions designed to achieve the people's prosperity. He acted everywhere – from Ufa and Samara to Geneva – doing organizational work and coordination of local underground clubs. In 1900 he was arrested, but Gershuni was able to avoid severe penalties, as it, in violation of party ethics, has steadfastly denied his involvement in conspiratorial structure. Kiev was a failure, and in 1904 was followed by the sentence: link. Escape led Gregory A. in Parisian exile, where he soon died. It was a true artist of terror. The main disappointment of his life was a betrayal of azev.
Bolshevichka Tips implanted, according to SRS, artificially and dishonestly led to the exit of them members of the party. Further activities were sporadic. SRS entered into temporary alliances with white, then red, and both parties understand that cooperation is only dictated by momentary political interests. A majority in the Constituent Assembly, the party failed to secure success. In 1919 the Bolsheviks, given the value of experience terrorist organization, has decided to legalize its activities on controlledterritories, but this step did not affect the intensity of anti-Soviet speeches. However, social revolutionaries have at times declared a moratorium on speech, supporting one of the contending parties. In 1922, members of the AKP finally “exposed” as the enemies of the revolution, and began their complete eradication in the whole territory of Soviet Russia.
The Foreign delegation of the AKP emerged long before the actual defeat of the party in 1918. This structure was not approved by the Central Committee, but, nevertheless, existed in Stockholm. After the actual prohibition of activities in Russia in exile were almost all survivors and the remaining free members of the party. They concentrated mainly in Prague, Berlin and Paris. Led the work of the foreign cells Viktor Chernov, who had fled abroad in 1920. In addition to “revolution”, in exile, were published and other periodicals (“For the people!”, “Modern note”), which reflected the main idea that has engulfed the former underground, recently fought against the exploiters. By the end of 30 years they realized the necessity of the restoration of capitalism.
The Struggle of security officers with the surviving revolutionaries became the subject of many artistic novels and films. Overall picture of these works correspond to reality, although fed distorted. In fact, the socialist-revolutionary movement by the mid 20-ies was a political corpse, completely harmless to the Bolsheviks. Within Soviet Russia the socialist-revolutionaries (former) mercilessly caught, and sometimes the social-revolutionary views even attributed to people, never separated. A successful operation by luring particularly odious members of the party in the Soviet Union had purpose rather justification of future reprisals, served as yet another exposé of the clandestine anti-Soviet organizations. To replace the SRS dock soon took the Trotskyites, Bukharinites, martovce and other former Bolsheviks, suddenly became objectionable. But that is another story…
