Today on the list of most common diseases listed as the pathology that is the gastro-intestinal tract. Nervous disorders, poor nutrition, climate, infections – here are the main reasons leading to diseases of this type.

One of the most frequent pathologies of the stomach and intestines is achalasia cardia related to neuro-muscular diseases of the esophagus. In this disease, changes in the passage of food masses in to the esophagus and from the esophagus into the stomach. It is caused by impaired peristalsis of the esophagus and the absence of reflex erections only the lower esophageal sphincter. The disease occurs in people of any age, but most often between twenty to fifty years, both men and women.

Classification of disease

Doctors revealed 4 stages of the disease, characterized by different changes in the oesophagus:

- the first stage is characterized by reversible temporary spasm of the cardia, is not accompanied by extension of the esophagus;

- for II stage is characterized by a stable expansion of the esophagus and increased motility of its walls;

- at III stage of stenosis of the cardia appears and the constant expansion of the esophagus with the breakdown of his motility and tone;

- at stage IV end-esophagus gets irreversible damage; starts esophagitis and paraesophageal.

Phase I and II lasts about a couple of months, stage III in about ten or fifteen years, and the IV-th for decades.

Achalasia cardia is also the primary and the secondary.

Cause of disease

There are several hypotheses about the causes of the disease, however, in the medical community to a common denominator and have not come. The presumable reasons are:

- lack of vitamins of group B;

- changes and lesions in the parasympathetic nervous system;

inflammation of the lymphatic system, the lungs or the mediastinum;

- stomach cancer, Chagas ' disease.

Achalasia cardia – symptoms:

- dysphagia or difficulty swallowing.

- regurgitation or movement of food masses in the opposite direction. This symptom is accompanied by vomiting;

- chest pain. For stage I and II pain associated with spasms and III-IV esophagitis;

- weakness, loss of weight, reduced capacity to work.

How to diagnose the disease?

Diagnose diseases using x-ray studies of esophagogastroscopy and passage of barium.

Achalasia cardia-treatment

The Main goal of treatment is to improve the patency of the food into the esophagus and addressing underlying symptoms. This is done either through surgical methods or through medicines.

Cardia Failure treatment involves the following:

sparing diet No. 1 or No. 1A;

- a fractional power, which implies the need to eat about five-six times a day, except too cold or too hot food;

with the exception of alcohol and cigarettes;

- the use of drugs: Nitroglycerin, "Isosorbide dinitrate", "Nifedipine", "Novocaine", "atropine Sulfate", "Antispasmodics", "botulinum toxin" (injection) and others.

Treatment with medications is not very efficient, as it only temporarily blocks the symptoms of the disease. More effective is surgery. Basically, it is used in parallel with drug treatment. It uses more of the following surgical techniques:

- air cardiodilatin (the extension of the cardia with the help of expanders). The effect of this method is high - up to 80%;

method validity of cardiotomy by Heller (longitudinal transection of the muscle sheath);

- balloon dilatation (special fibers of the lower esophageal sphincter).

Of Course, the only treatment prescribed by the doctor. And it depends on the complexity and type of disease.
