The feast of spring and work without politics

Every holiday is associated for us with certain images that cause a number of Association: visual, olfactory, audible… New year, of course, a Christmas tree, presents, Christmas songs, the smell of tangerines. March 8 - sold right on the street the first spring flowers, delicate scent of Mimosa. May 9 - the ribbons everywhere, the smell of tulips and lilacs, repeatedly sounding the song «Victory Day».

But First may for different generations of our country due to various events. The older generation remembers well the Grand may day demonstration, when everyone – children and adults – with flags and banners were columns along the main street of the city, sounded like a fun song, and after the demonstration everyone went to the banks of rivers, in groves, that there, in the lap of nature in spring, to celebrate the international day of solidarity of workers of all countries. People firmly believed that it really is a world festival of progressive mankind (though it was celebrated in such a status only in socialist countries).

Young people know May 1 as a Holiday of spring and labor, which was so called already in the post. In 1997, the government of new Russia, decided to make your spring holiday a political RAID. Note was made that these holidays (and there are often several: 2-3) people aren't so much celebrated, how many worked on their allotments, gardens and orchards. After 1 may - labour day that feeds a year. Therefore, the Holiday of spring and labor lives up to its name.

With this value on may 1, the Feast of spring and work, it was noted thousands of years ago. In those ancient times the inhabitants of Italy in the spring days especially earnestly appealed to the goddess of agriculture and fertility Maya. They prayed to her, offered sacrifices to the goddess sent people good luck in the peasant case. This non-political Celebration of spring and labour is celebrated on may 1 and today, in many countries, such as Austria, Spain, England and in Russia.

Political hue Mayday received in 1889. After the revolutionary clashes between workers and capitalists in Chicago (USA) the Second international decided to commemorate this event the Day of international solidarity of workers of all countries on 1 May. Even before the revolution, this group of progressive-minded workers went out on may day to speak out in defense of the proletariat and to condemn the policy of the tsarist government and the bourgeoisie. These may day rallies was politechbot, means of propaganda of Bolshevik ideas, a way of uniting workers in a single revolutionary force.

So May 1 was one of the most ideologically holidays of the Soviet Union.

With the advent of the new, democratic forces have changed the ideology. Left the main arena of the Communist ideals. May day gradually began to lose its political orientation. But to lose a holiday, such a familiar and beloved, was not. So I decided to rename it, focusing on lyrically of spring and labour parties.

The Holiday of spring and labor was left without demonstrations of proletarian unity, but with traditional feasts and picnics. And, according to very ancient tradition, the may days marked shock work in the garden and flowerbeds. However, for many of our grandfathers and grandmothers this day is still a day of unity in struggle for the rights of working people. They also go to rallies and may day, confront an already democratic government. But their number is every year becoming rarer.

For this and future generations, May 1, will be associated with flowering gardens, the smell of fresh earth and grass, birds singing. If on 1 May and the day of the fight, only pests of orchards and gardens.
