Rosella parrots are medium–sized birds. This is a whole genus, which is divided into several species. The most popular is the mottled rosella, there are also foam, pale-headed, northern, Tasmanian rosella and others.
Rosella parrots are very bright and colorful. Birds have distinctive spots on their cheeks, backs, and they also have a long tail. It grows up to 18-30 cm. They live 15-20 years, sometimes even more. They are not considered “talkers”, but these birds are very fond of singing. Rosella parrots (photos of them can be seen in the article) are often kept in homes.
In the wild, they live on the coastal islands of Australia. Rosella parrots gather in small flocks, mostly of 20-50 individuals, but sometimes even more. They try to stay closer to pastures, sparse shrubs, farmland, and are less likely to be found in squares and parks. Farmers don't like them – rosellas can cause a lot of trouble and destroy entire lands. Birds eat a variety of greens, flowers, grass seeds, nuts, berries, and insect larvae.
Rosella parrots can fly, but they still spend most of their time on the ground. Birds deftly move through the grass thickets. The researchers claim that this particular species likes to eat while holding pieces in its paw. They become sexually mature at 12-14 months. The female most often has 5 chicks, but sometimes their number ranges from four to eight. Parrots build nests in tree hollows or stumps, while the female incubates the eggs, the male forages for her food. The chicks are born in 18-20 days. Small rosellas become independent at the age of eight weeks.

Pet rosellas are fed special grain mixtures for medium-sized parrots, which are sold in a pet store. Their daily diet should also include fresh fruits and vegetables. The water in the drinker needs to be changed every day. You can give worms to birds, but if this option is unacceptable, then you should offer them a finely chopped hard-boiled egg several times a week. They also eat homemade cheese well. This allows you to replenish the parrot's body with animal proteins. In addition, poultry should always have access to chalk, a source of calcium. It can be put in a cage.
It is worth carefully approaching the choice of a cage. It is desirable to purchase a large one. And it should be placed in a lighted place. There should be toys, perches and ladders in the cage. Rosella parrots love open spaces, so don't forget to let them out of their cages at least occasionally. Birds are friendly, trying to please people. They are very smart. But they are not recommended for those who have never kept parrots before. After they are tamed, you need to constantly pay attention to them. Otherwise, it is fraught with loud “screams” and damage to household property. By the way, Roselle's parrots like to nibble on something all the time. And so that the interior items do not fall into their field of vision, it is better to give the parrot twigs or toys.
And one more practical recommendation. You should not keep them together with budgies. There is a photo of a budgie on the Internet after the “battle” with Rosella. The spectacle is not for the faint of heart. How did the baby survive after that? Half of the budgie's head is just gone.
