Historical facts

In the XIX century on the very spot where today is the most beautiful square of the city, was an abandoned wasteland. On one side of the Rostov-on-don, on the other — Nakhichevan-on-don. In 1913, in a vacant lot there was an interesting art Nouveau building-the Administration of the Vladikavkaz railway.theatre square of Rostov

In the late 20's and early 30-ies of the last century, the area had a different name — of the Revolution. Today this is similar to the preserved Park, which today is called the Park of the Revolution. He was defeated in 1927 by artist-agronomist G. N. Samnyasa. Park took a huge area of 21 hectares.

The Building was built in the valley of the Park of the Revolution, in the constructivist style that was prevalent in the architecture in the 20-ies. After the completion of the construction of the theatre began to take shape the appearance of the square. Early in the North-Western part of it was the corps of the Nikolaev hospital, which was built on donations of citizens. Its project was developed by the Rostov architect N. M. Sokolov.

On the South side of the Theatre square in Rostov became a five-storey residential building for railway workers. During the war the building was badly damaged. To restore it, the city almost immediately after the victory in the war was a competition. After the complete liberation of the city from the Nazis (1943) on the Theatre square of Rostov was the city rally. The participants decided to establish here a monument to the fallen soldiers-liberators. Rostov theatre square photo
