Where is Ikra district? How many inhabitants? What sights you can see? All this will tell our article.
The District is located in the southern part of Dagestan, in the zone of foothills of the greater Caucasus. Its southwestern boundary is the crest of the Samur range. The total area of the municipality – 698 sq km Administration Ikra area located in the village of Kurakh, to the address: street Nazaraliev, 1A. The head of the district at the moment – Azizov Zamir Zagidovich.
The nature of the relief Ikra district – typical of the mountain. A large part of its territory located above 1000 meters above sea level. The climate is temperate-continental. Air temperatures fluctuate widely (from –20...–15 degrees in January to +25...+30 degrees in July).
The Main natural watercourse in the region – the river Chickens. Within the area it is fed by many small streams and rivers. There are virtually no forests. A rather large forest tracts is only in the northeastern part of the district.
The Ikra district appeared on the map of the Soviet Dagestan in June 1929. Earlier a long time there was a Lezgin state education – the so-called Ikra Union. He appeared in the middle of the XIV century. Residents Ikra Union mainly engaged in terraced agriculture, animal husbandry, and Handicrafts. In particular there was excellent woven carpets.
By the end of the XVIII century Ikra Union finally ceased to exist, going to the jurisdiction of Kazikumuckh first, and then – Kyurinsky khanate.
Throughout the twentieth century, the inhabitants of these regions began to actively come down from the mountains – in the lowlands of the neighbouring administrative districts. As a result – on the map, Ikra area there were a number of abandoned villages. Among them – Titel, Kumukh, Tiling, yeah Mac and other settlements.
Today within the municipal district is home to about 15 thousand people (as of beginning of 2017). The average population density of 21.3 people/sq. Starting in 2011, the district has experienced a negative trend to reduce the number of its inhabitants.
The Ikra district predominantly populated by Lezgins (over 98%). Here also home to Azeri, Russian, Agulla, Tabasaran and some other peoples, whose share in the total population is scanty.
The Ikra In the district has 28 rural settlements. Only ten of them, the number of residents exceeds 500 people. And here in the village Bogatepe, according to the last census, no one living. The largest villages in the district – Chickens, Eggs, Kabir and Kumuk.
All the settlements of the district (excluding the village of Arablar) are mono-ethnic. While 22 of them are Lezgis and five – Agulla. In Arablar, in addition to Lezgins, Azerbaijanis live.
Tourist attractions and ancient monuments in the district as a whole is not rich. It is especially attractive for its nature. Ikra in the district there are 8 protected areas and 8 sites of historical and cultural heritage (almost all of them located in Kureha or its surroundings).
The Main attractions of the area:
Near the village Cotul is a unique source of sulfurous water, which for its healing properties is considered the best in the whole Dagestan. And between the settlements of Helgen and Ashar is one of the most picturesque corners of the district Ikra – lake Ceiver. A small pond with a width of one hundred meters comfortably hidden on the slopes of the Samur range. It feeds the lake due to the cold springs gushing from the mountain slopes.
If we talk about the settlements, the most interesting and historic in the area is the village of Kukas. This high Lezgin village, surrounded on all sides by incredibly beautiful green hills. Within easy reach of the towering peaks of the Samur range – mountain ALAC and Tonuge. At the time Kukas was the most important village in the Ikra part of the Union.
Another notable village Ikra district –Millicent. It is famous for its beautiful and well-tended gardens, centuries-old traditions, bustling and cheerful celebrations.
