Trinity square in St. Petersburg (photo can be seen below) is the oldest in the city. She appeared on City island in 1703. Over time, City island got another name - St. Petersburg, or Petrograd side, and the square remained the administrative center. It housed government buildings, the port and customs, food market, Gostiny Dvor, pub. Since the appearance of the area and its layout has changed.
The appearance of the area due to the construction of Holy Trinity Cathedral. The temple was built from 1703 to 1710 to commemorate the victory over the Swedes and was named in honor of the Holy Trinity, and Trinity square in St. Petersburg has received the name on behalf of the Cathedral.
More than 20 years it has staged folk festivals, announced the king's orders, conducted inspections, parades, executions, and other events. By order of Peter the great square was erected the building in which is situated the Synod and the Senate, in the southern part of the island build a port and customs. Next to them was a Pig market. The second fire broke out in 1718, he attacked the Senate building and the room in which Peter was the Polish ambassadors. In 1803, there is a need in the construction of a floating bridge between the Petrograd side and the left Bank of the Neva. It was named St. Petersburg in honor of the centennial of the city. When he came into disrepair during the years 1824-1827 was erected pontoon crossing. The new bridge was named Suvorov. However, as was built Troitskaya square in Saint Petersburg, the ferry ceased to correspond to the architectural style of the buildings. So by the end of the XIX century it was decided to convert. The Cathedral many times suffered from the flames of fires, but always restored it. After the October revolution of Trinity square was renamed Revolution square. According to the new ideology, in the square with the same name, the Cathedral was not the place, so in 1933 it was demolished, but instead built two houses and broke the square.
The 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg, the Cathedral decided to recover. But the project was not implemented due to the fact that the demolition of houses for the construction of the Church was impossible. So instead of the destroyed temple decided to build a chapel in the name of the Trinity. His consecration took place in may 2003. Now the chapel is valid.
