"A hero of our time": "Taman", a summary of

“commercial” - the first Novella of the “Diary of Pechorin" supposedly written by the protagonist of the book – Grigory Alexandrovich Pechorin. She plays a very important role in the plot and the fate of the character, on the one hand, complementing the psychological portrait, revealing the many important qualities and traits, and on the other – helping to associate Pechorin with “natural” people who live far away from the shackles of civilization and social conventions – “honest” smugglers.

So, “commercial”, summary. The name itself refers to a small geographical point, called Pecorini (again, from his face, writes Lermontov most “Caucasian” chapters of the novel) is a nasty town, where he was robbed and even almost drowned.

Going by the order in Pyatigorsk, Pechorin is forced to stay in Taman, waiting for transport. Apartment search leads him to the city outskirts, where the hero meets a strange boy, the blind man, which is clearly evident in the whitish eyes, and moves along steep winding paths deftly and boldly, if everything is fine. Said blind rather muddled, making it difficult Russian words with the little Russian dialect, and in General, does not produce a very pleasant impression. The whole Novella “commercial”, it, in many ways reminiscent of detective work. Master of intrigue, Lermontov from the very beginning intrigues the reader and keeps him in suspense throughout the entire narrative.

Pechorin's adventures continue on. Hut, where he had to quarterhouse, without the icons in the red corner, and, as he writes in the diary of the hero, clearly a place “unclean". But on the roof of the shed he sees a girl in a striped dress that sings a mysterious song. "Ondine" wonderful good-looking, and therefore Pechorin tries to strike up her acquaintance. And the hero overhears the conversation of the blind man and the girl, more like the secret meeting of two accomplices.

Next “commercial”, a short story of a novel, become more intriguing. Pechorin craves adventure, and then fate sees to it that it was not boring. The hero tracks down the secret paths that night, the boy and Ondine make our way to the beach. It turns out they are smugglers, and engaged in criminal activity. Of Course, it is better to read the whole “commercial” – a brief summary can not bring the plot full. However, it is clear that the story will not end on a positive note. The girl smuggler almost drowned the young officer. Blind boy stole his box of money and the sword. But he broke the rest of these people, living by its laws. As a result, the Undine and Janko left the place, leaving poor blind man to beg and starve, and his grandmother, a lonely old woman. Pechorin heard, with what despair said the boy about his fate, and how callously and indifferently answered him, the beautiful Undine, throwing for services for him a farthing. And on us, readers, this episode produces a painful impression. Yes, and Pechorin is not so pleased that got involved in this adventure. We realize reading even a summary of the content – “commercial” ends with a sad conclusion of the hero that he was destined to play the role of an axe in the hands of fate, destroying the fate of those who pushes his life. And very accurately compare Pechorin himself with a lone brig that sail the seas – the brig, which started up on the wind and waves and wanders aimlessly on the horizon.
