One of the main indicators characterizing economic activity is the gross national product (GNP). This is the total cost of the total goods and services produced in a country over a certain time period. Usually this period is one calendar year. GNP – this is the main measure of economic activity and economic activity in the country.

The Term “gross” means that refers to all the aggregate products produced per year to the national economy.

Nominal GNP is the value of production of goods and services in the economy over a given period of time calculated in the prices thereof.

GNP Calculated on the basis of market value, measured in monetary terms. GNP – macroeconomic financial indicators; it is considered only the end product, that is produced for final consumption during the year. This should be eliminated all intermediate goods used for resale. The calculation of the GNP is made by excluding all non-productive transactions that do not contribute to increase the number of products.

Measure GNP in three ways:

1) by final use, that is, considering the cost of purchasing the total volume of goods manufactured for the year;

2) distribution method, that is, counting the income earned from production in the current year;

3) production method, that is, summing the value added generated in all sectors of the national economy.

The First method is characterized in that the calculation of GNP is expenditure, i.e. the sum of costs of all economic agents in investment, consumption, government purchases and net exports.

The cost of investments – the cost of machinery, equipment, buildings, structures, material and technical reserves.

Investing can be gross, which includes all those that are going to replace equipment that is eliminated from the production process and the net, which are used to purchase new equipment.

The cost of consumption includes household expenditures on different types of goods and services.

The Distribution method used is that GNP is defined as the sum of all income received by households, enterprises and public institutions.

Takes into account four components of revenues: 1) wages; 2) rent; 3) interest on deposits and loans; 4) the profit received by the owners of individual farms and cooperatives, and the profits of corporations, which is divided into dividends and profit going to expand production.

The Sum of all incomes – net national income. If you add depreciation, we get GNP. In other words, GDP – Net national income plus depreciation.

Using the method of added value reveals the degree of participation of industries in manufacturing gross domestic product. In this case, add up the value added at each production stage of the manufacture of the product. The value added includes profits, wages, interest rate, depreciation, transport costs, advertising costs.

Russia's GDP in 2011 per capita in dollar terms was $ 10 400. For this indicator, the country was on the 68th place in the world.

In 1993, in accordance with the recommendations of the United Nations, the GNP was replaced by Gross National Income (GNI). Since then, the term "GNP" in statistical practice is not used, but exists for the most part only in Economics textbooks. However, the national statistical organizations of some countries adhere to the old terminology.
