Life – an amazing thing! Sometimes she brings us a surprise in the form of a paradox, which can break the brain in an attempt to understand where lies the right answer. The word “paradox” means a situation which could exist in real life, but which, however, logically impossible to explain. In addition, there is such a thing as "aporia". The term refers to a fictitious situation, but quite understandable with the help of logical arguments.

Paradoxes are different: economic, legal, philosophical, chemical, physical, physiological, logical, related to the choice of statistical and mathematical. As you can see, they are not so little. Talk about how sometimes can be puzzling paradoxes in mathematics. By the way, they are a good exercise for brain training. It's like the body, also needs to be trained. For example, try to solve the following humorous mathematical paradox.

Once upon a time, there lived a gentleman, who in the attic overlooked a couple of excellent but small-sized boots. He decided to get rid of them and instructed his servant to sell them on the market for 25 rubles. He went to run an errand. At the market the servant saw a disabled person, who had no left foot and his right was wrapped in some rags. It was autumn, the servant felt sorry for this man, and when he asked him to sell him half off his right boot, he agreed, even though he knew that the remainder is unlikely someone will be needed. So he got 12.5 rubles. The servant was about to return to the owner when he turned up to eye the second a one-legged cripple, without the right leg, which also needed shoes. He sold the remaining left boot for 12.5 rubles and happy back to the master. The owner, after hearing this story, began to reproach the servant because he did the unfortunate discount. He gave him 5 rubles and asked to find the two buyers and to divide between them the money. The servant, too, was no fool and decided that he works for is also something that should be expected. So it's 3 of the ruble took and every disabled person gave one ruble. Now, if you count together the money that took his servant, and those that ultimately paid the disabled, we get 3+12.5-1+12.5-1 = 26 rubles. And boots because in the beginning was worth 25 rubles. Hence the question: where did the extra penny. The answer to this mathematical paradox will be given a little later, so as not to deprive you of the pleasure by understanding how it happened. And yet note that in addition to humorous, there are serious paradoxes over which tormented a generation of scientists and which sometimes cause heated debate.

Take, for example, the time paradox, which is also known as the twin paradox. In 1905, none other than albert Einstein, formulated the theorem, which spoke of relativistical the deceleration time. The gist of it is that if at one point will be located two identical clocks, one and the same time, and then some of them moved around a closed curve with constant velocity until they again will be at its original location, then they will show a different time than the clock that was stationary. Oddly enough, but the numerous experiments that were conducted with macroscopic clocks and elementary particles suggests that this is possible and the theory of relativity works in this case.

Well, it's time to explain our mathematical paradox with boots. Once the ruble because of the amount of money paid by persons with disabilities (23 RUB) was added three rubles servants, and this is wrong. The money servants need not to add and take away. Initially, the boots cost 25 rubles, but after discount now cost 20. So it all fits. If you managed to solve this mathematical paradox comic, I congratulate you! And if not? Then try to solve other paradoxes in mathematics. In any case, it will increase the sharpness of your thinking. And who wouldn't?
