The collapse of the Soviet Union: external influence or internal conspiracy?

However, many historians agree that the collapse of the USSR was initiated by external factors. To such conclusion they suggests the fact that the Soviet political elite since the mid-sixties, less believed in its ideology and gradually turned into the admirers of bourgeois values. Moreover, at the solution of questions of different levels in all spheres of activities flourished "telephone law", bribery and corruption. The Communist party, many citizens came not from ideological reasons, as before, but only in order not to lose the opportunity to make a career.
