It is public education that emerged in the 15th century and lasted over two hundred years, is still the object of heated discussions, the participants of which are reputable historians. Kasimov khanate is a truly unique phenomenon of the past. When it arose? Which have the status? What is the role assigned to him in Russian history? Why the Kingdom "Genghis" collapsed? Here are the main questions that are controversial for scientists studying the past. The lack of direct sources and the paucity of evidence forced historians to put forward only assumptions about what was a few centuries ago Kasimov khanate. Today, this phenomenon is not studied to the end. Let's try to summarize the main theories of scientists and to analyse what could be the story of Qasim khanate.
The Above structure with the subsequent signs of statehood emerged, according to scientists on the territory, where lived the tribe of Meschera. His representatives, to talk to one of the Finno-Ugric languages, led a semi-nomadic life. At the beginning of the second Millennium, the territory of the tribe invaded the Slavic Krivichi. Not to say that maserti were pleased with uninvited guests, but to chase them from their territory, they did not.
And Krivichi stood at a higher stage of development, therefore, helped the natives to make their culture of being more civilized. However, owners wondered how the Slavs can survive long in one place. Maserti first saw the home from sanded logs, in which life was much easier than in the dugouts. After some time, and “natives” began to build for himself a hut, following the example of the South. And the newcomers were fed farming, and also engaged in pottery and blacksmithing. All this did not escape the attention of the owners. Eventually, the two tribes will make friends and intermarry among themselves. Their blood mixed, the natives will recede into the background of the pagan customs, language and culture. They will adopt all the “advanced” achievements of the Slavs and to live by their example.

The origin of the Slavs. The influence of different cultures
Slavs (under this name), according to some researchers, appeared in the story only in 6 century ad. However, the language of nationality bears the archaic features of the Indo-European community. This, in turn, suggests that the origin of the Slavs h...
Over the years, maserti and Krivichi will be a single unit. Their settlement transformirovalsya in the socio-territorial community with the beautiful name Gorodets Meshchersky. Here then arose the Kasimov khanate. Geographically, the settlement was situated near the place where the river Wench fell into CMOS.
According to some sources, in the mid-12th century Gorodets Meshchersky was visited by Grand Duke Yuri Dolgoruky. He then took care of strengthening the borders of Ancient Russia, and, convinced that a settlement of the Krivichi Slavs, and has a convenient location, ordered to turn Gorodets Meshchersky in the fortress.
It was in 1152, and is officially considered that the city was founded then. The settlement was protected by a wooden fence, a moat and rampart. So Gorodets Meshchersky was the main guardian of the Vladimir Suzdal Principality. Settlement strictly coped with the assigned tasks up until in 1376 to Russia came the Mongol-Tatars. The enemy plundered and burned the Gorodets Meshchersky.
However, some time later, survivors of the invasion of Mastercam managed to rebuild the city, but in a different place. Now the settlement (which later received a different name, a New Grassroots city) was located between two large ravines, which represented the Western and Eastern sides of insurmountable barriers for the enemy. From the North the city was obramleniya impenetrable forests, and from the South river high mountainous coast. To strengthen the protection of the city from all sides was installed earthworks, over which stood a wooden wall. The process of building a New Grassroots city was carried out during the rule of the Moscow Prince Dmitry Donskoy and Prince Vasili. Both adhered to the policy of consolidation of Russian lands, so soon the new settlement of Masherau and Krivichi, which was ruled by Prince Alexander, Ukovich, became part of Moscow Principality. And a New Grassroots city as before, acted as defense of the borders, because the neighborhood was a mighty khanate of Kazan, which during the reign of Ivan IV became part of Russia.
The Power in the Kazan Kingdom alternately passed from hand to hand of different clans. One of the sons of the ruling dynasty named Machacek in order to win the throne took the life of his own father and brother.
His Two younger brothers (Yacoub and Qassim) to escape, were forced to flee from his native state. Suddenly, they appeared in the Moscow Principality where asked Prince Vasily II of protection and shelter. However, the Russian ruler in the middle of the 15th century didn't want to go on open confrontation with the Kazan rulers. Even in the summer of 1445 Vasily the Dark lost in the battle of Suzdal offspring of Khan Ulu-Muhammed. And he is the Prince of Moscow, together with his cousin were then in captivity. But a few months later, Vasily II was released for a huge ransom. Russian ruler was forced to conclude with Ulu-Muhammad the contract on onerous terms. The Prince pledged to take a lot of Tatars, came from a noble family, and define in the Moscow Principality "feeding". Naturally, Russian people resented that will have to contain foreigners. Well, when the sons of the Kazan Khan came to ask Basil Dark patronage, he was delighted to such turn of events. And the sons of the Ulu Muhammad actually served properly. Qasim helped the Prince in the struggle against Dmitry Shemyaka, he was on the side of Russian military campaigns against the khans of the Golden Horde. For valor, courage and devotion to Basil II gave to Qasim portion, the center of which was Gorodets meshcherskiy. On the border of Muscovy was formed Kasimov khanate (time of occurrence - 1452), which was one of the younger sons of the Khan Ulu-Muhamed.
However, some historians tend to think that the Tatars appeared in the Meshchera land before its put under the control of Qasim. Speech, in particular, the members of the princely family of the Shira. According to legend, they left the lands of the Golden Horde weakened and moved to the new place of residence which is geographically located in the region of the banks of the rivers Oka and CNA. And one of the princes Shirinsky decided settled in the Meshchera land, and even converted to Christianity, received a new name - Michael. Some scholars believe that he was the ancestor of the princes Meshchersky. But whether it was, in fact, unknown.
In the reign of Qasim entrusted him with the destiny of Gorodets Meshchersky was renamed. He received the names of Kasimov city and the city of Qasim. Once the son of Khan Ulu Muhammad died, the capital of the former settlement of mixer and krivichy came to be called by karimovym. Well, several years later, settlement “transformed” historians in the Kasimov khanate (Kingdom). Once formed this government unit, which was based on Ancient Russia, it began to appear the magnificent buildings of Muslim architecture.
It Should be emphasized that the unique not only the history of the Kasimov khanate, but also its culture.
In the second half of the 15th century the architects built here a true masterpiece of architecture-stone mosque with a minaret which has been preserved, though not in the original version, to the present day. Today you can climb the minaret and see the beautiful nature of the Ryazan region from a bird's flight. The mosque is a massive structure with an open balcony and a spiral stone staircase. On the balcony there is a Playground, climbed up on that, a Mullah called the citizens to prayer. However, the area on the balcony of the tower also served as a place where generals looked around the troops. Near the mosque is the mausoleum of Khan Shakh-Ali (tekie), built of white stone.
Quite a remarkable question, whether minted in the inheritance of the youngest son of Ulu-Muhamed metal money. Experts in history say what it could be. At least until the 16th century. However, I doubt numismatists that the coins of Qasim khanate existed in principle. However, below merchant. Shishkin in his literary work, wrote that he was lucky to hold metallic money the mid-16th century. On the coin the merchant beheld inscriptions in Arabic, which was translated as: “Ali Shah / King of Kasimov, in the year 1553”. But numismatists believe that Shishkin got a fake, since such a form for Tatar coins were unacceptable. For real money pointed out the ruler's name, place of issue and year.
Of Course, the education of Qasim khanate – is a multistep process, which interested the eminent historians and writers. For example, the story of the destiny of the Russian state studied in detail in the second half of the 19th century scientist V. Velyaminov-Zernov. The result of his studies was the four-volume "a Study on Kasimov kings and princes”. Writer Vladimir Soloviev in the same 19th century published the novel “Kasimov bride». Well, a few years later merchant. Shishkin, who lived on the territory of Meschersky of the earth, wrote a book in which in detail and told how was the formation of Kasimovsky khanate.
One way or another, but the territory, which in ancient times was a settlement of the Krivichi and maser, became the Russian state's strategic destiny in the reign of Yuri Dolgoruky. And centuries later is already developed in cultural and political terms, the Kasimov khanate. 1445-1552 the years became his most significant in history. And it all started with Ulu-Mohammed who helped Vasily the Dark to regain the throne lost as a result of the uprising. Dmitry Shemyaka was overthrown. And in gratitude for the help the Prince of Moscow gives Meshchersky land possession Qasim.
And he was Vasily the Dark faithfully, participating in military battles on the side of the Russian state. So, the Kasimov khanate, whose rulers continued the policy of the youngest son of Ulu-Muhammad after his death, became a stronghold of Ancient Russia.
Especially in this respect it should be noted the merits of Khan Shakh-Ali. Even in adolescence he became involved in an intricate political game, where Kazan alternately sided with the Moscow Principality, the Crimean khanate. Shah Ali repeatedly became the ruler of the Kingdom of Kazan, butevery time he was deposed (in one case, initiated by Ivan IV). Eventually he will get the Kasimov khanate (capital – the city of Qasim).
In 1552-m Shah Ali along with his army helped Ivan the terrible to conquer Kazan.
Notable relationships the future ruler of Kasimov Kingdom and the beauty Suimbike, who was the widow of the deceased Khan of Kazan. The girl didn't like undersized and overweight Shah Ali, but Ivan IV was intended to marry a couple at any cost and implemented his ideas. But this marriage neither Suimbike or Shah-Ali to no avail. The beautiful widow has lived all his life like a bird in a cage, without leaving Kasimov Palace, and the Khan all the time resent the fact that he was nasty to his wife.
The feats of arms of Kasimov Khan admired many of the Russian soldiers. Shah Ali helped to suppress the uprising in Kazan in 1554, then participated in the battle of Vyborg and the Swedes, then went to the military campaign against Livonia. And in 1562 he fought on the Russian side against the Polish king Sigismund, in this military operation Shah took Polotsk. A year later, the king commanded the Khan to go to Lithuania. In this campaign Shah-Ali was accompanied by boyar Ivan Volsky.
One way or another, but the Tatar warlord helped significantly to expand the boundaries of the Russian state. And there is great was the Kasimov khanate? The occupied area of the lot included, besides the capital, several fiefdoms with formal autonomy, among which were: Temnikov, Enkei shack, Kadoma.
From the point of view of ethnicity, “Kingdom” was represented by three groups: Mordovians, Kasimov Tatars and Tatars-Mishars. So say the historians-ethnographers, who have long studied the phenomenon called Kasimov khanate. What language spoke its inhabitants? In one of the dialects of the Tatar with elements of Mishar dialect.
Shah Ali died in 1567, and the body of the ruler was buried in a mausoleum Kasimov.
Several centuries Later the historian V. Velyaminov - Zernov writes that, in addition to Khan, tekie found the body of his spouse Bulak-EAS and Simbec, as well as several relatives.
Who then got possession of the Kasimov khanate? Historical records indicate that this fate was awarded to a distant relative of the Shah-Ali and yet the great-grandson of the Golden Horde Khan Akhmad. His name was Sain-Bulat. Management of Meshchersky land he was entrusted with Ivan the terrible himself. And the new owner of Qasim khanate began to help the Russian Tsar to conquer new territories.
In 1573 Han was baptized into Orthodoxy and took the name Simeon. After that, Ivan IV took Sain-Bulat Meshchersky edge, but left him the title. Two years later, Ivan suddenly declared Simeon Bekbulatovich “king and great Prince of all Russia». Of course, it all turned ordinary props: Ivan IV would never abdicated. A few months later, Ivan was deprived of the great Khan of the title, but instead gave the possession of the Tver destiny. But what about the Kasimov khanate? The occupied area is this, from the point of view of representatives of the Tatar aristocracy, authority, Dating from the 16th century is gradually reduced. All due to the fact that the task of the Muslim vassal of Russia were made already three quarters, and Ivan VI are no longer seen in the Kingdom, founded by the youngest son of Ulu-Mohammed, have great potential.
When the throne in Russia tried to seize false Dmitry II, in Meshchersky land under the rule of Khan Kazakh dynasty Uraz-Muhammed. The patrimony handed to him in 1600 by Boris Godunov. When Russia nastuplenye times, Han acknowledged “the Tushino thief” of the ruler. Uraz-Muhammed moved to Tushino. For this act the Tsar Vasily Shuisky laid siege to the capital of Qasim khanate. The impostor was forced to flee and subsequently ended up in Kaluga. Soon Kazakh Khan also leaves his inheritance and finds himself first in the camp of the Polish king, and then went to Kaluga, staying at the court of Sigismund III. The son of the ruler of Kasimov Kingdom at the time was also located in Kaluga. And after a while the offspring of Uraz-Muhammed says the false Dmitry II, Khan wants to betray him. In the end, the Tushino thief lured Uraz-Muhammed hunting, and then killed him. But soon the same fate will befall impostor who die at the hands of the Nogai Prince Peter Urusov.
In the first half of the 17th century throne in Kasimov took Araslan Alesevich, who first served as Governor in the Second militia and was in command of Tartar army on the river Vologda. During his reign Moscow became all the stronger to interfere in the internal Affairs of the khanate. The governors of the Russian Tsar soon began to settle the disputes between the representatives of Tatar nobility. Best informed tandem (the Kasimov khanate, and Russia) during the reign of Mikhail Romanov became obsolete almost a hundred percent.
But it should be emphasized that until the 20-ies of the 17th century, the Tatars continued to actively participate on the side of Moscow, the Emperor in military campaigns against the Lithuanians, poles, and «Russian criminals”. Then they guarded the border of Russia from the threat of attack from the Crimean Tatars. After the death of Arslan of Alievich Meshchersky land passed into the control of his infant son of Seid-Burkhan. However, the power of this representative of the Siberian dynasty was minimal.Kasimov khanate, whose economy has effectively been in the hands of the Moscow Tsar, was one of the main sources of replenishment of the Russian Treasury. But the young ruler was forbidden to communicate with foreign merchants and ambassadors. As an adult, Seid-Burkhan converted to Orthodoxy, becoming Vasily Arslanovich. In Kasimov he was still a Governor, although it will depend very little. Seid Burhan died in 1679.
The Latter ruler Meshchersky land was Fatima-Sultan (wife of the Khan of Arslana of Alievich). Being no longer young, she was on the throne only 2 years, and its governorship was also a formality. It took the life of close. The reason for the murder was the fact that the ruler wanted to convert to Orthodoxy.
The Kasimov khanate, whose territory after the death of Fatima-Sultan finally passed under the control of the princes, ceased to exist in 1681. Then Meshchersky land was visited by Tsar Peter I, who allowed his “Potashnik” – clown Balakirev - called “kasinovskogo Khan”. Later Empress Catherine I gave Kasimov in control of one of his confidants.
In a wooden Kasimov repeatedly occurred fires, which affect primarily the historic character of the city. Only in the late 18th century it became stone thanks to the efforts of architect I. gagina. Modern Kasimov, located in the Ryazan region, is the focal point of tourists from all corners of Russia.
