A Healthy heart is called a strong working continuously and without interruption body. Its size corresponds to the size of the human fist and weigh about five hundred grams. In addition to its main function to provide a normal (stable) blood flow, it is able to adapt to the regularly changing needs of the body.

Working as a two-way pump, the heart circulates blood throughout the body. With the help of the muscular wall (septum) it is divided in half. Each half contains two chambers (Atria and ventricles).

The right atrium receives all the blood from the upper and lower parts of the body. At the tricuspid valve the blood goes into the right ventricle through which valve stem light in them pumps blood. Oxygenated it goes into the left atrium. Out of the mitral valve the blood goes into the left ventricle, which is the aortic valve distributes blood throughout the body. Supplying the tissues with oxygen, it is lean, flows back into the right atrium.

Heart Valves are operable in one direction “door” between the chambers. They not only support the promotion of forward blood and prevent its backward movement. Healthy heart valves are the petals, consisting of a thin flexible fabric normal form. In cardiac relaxation and reductions in opening and closing happens without a glitch.

Birth defects can cause pathology. Heart valves can be scarred or damaged as a result of infection, rheumatic fever, hereditary disease, heart attacks. Damage can be caused and in the power of human age. The greatest risk mitral valve. When it comes reguritate (mitral insufficiency) in which there is a leakage of blood from the valve in the opposite direction after closure of the valves. In this case, the heart becomes more tense – it tries to apply the required amount of blood in the body and to compensate for the deficiency. Damage to the heart valves include stenosis (narrowing of valvular orifice), in which the bad blood passes through the valve. In this case also the body begins to work harder, to skip enough blood through the narrow opening. This additional strain on the heart weakens it, leads to its increase and causes various diseases.

In many cases, people taking the necessary medication under proper medical supervision, with heart disease live a full life. However, it happens that the medication either did not bring the effect, or be dangerous to health. Depending on the condition, the doctor may prescribe repair or mitral valve replacement. However, in case of serious deformation or damage recovery will not bring the desired result. In such difficult situations, it is necessary to replace heart valve. Surgical intervention is necessary for the manifestation of the symptoms of chronic heart failure and a significant decrease in ejection of blood by the left ventricle (impaired systolic function).

Reconstruction (recovery, plastic) valve is carried out with maintaining your own heart valve. After the operation the patient does not require chronic administration of blood thinning medication.

While strong, are not recoverable damages appoint a replacement (prosthetic) valves. This use of mechanical (artificial) or biological (tissue) prosthesis.

Mechanical heart valves are very reliable and durable, do not require replacement. However, they have a significant drawback-to prevent blood clotting, the patient is prescribed the appropriate medication for life.

Biologic prostheses are made from chemically-treated share of the hearts of animals (horses, cows or pigs). After the installation of a tissue valve prosthesis patient is prescribed medicines that thin the blood. However, the lifetime of the prosthesis is limited in time and after a certain period (ten to fifteen years) break, resulting in possible re-operation.
