Post-Traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) – serious and intractable mental illness. It is due to experiences of catastrophic events that caused heavy damage to the life and fate of the patients.

It is Hardly possible to find a man who for his life would not have received any physical or mental injury. Quite often the destructive power of such injuries is unbearable.

For Example, this happens if people were involved in the fighting, he lost someone close, he was subjected to violence, have gone bankrupt or suffered more grief, etc. are Not only direct participants but also the witnesses the destructive events exposed to dangerous levels.

In such cases becomes effective defense mechanism called shock. It can be physical or mental origin. Shock – a healthy reaction of the body to experience stress, which protects the body and the identity of the person from physical and mental destruction. When physical shock is getting below the threshold of pain sensitivity. Severe pain better tolerated. With sincere – blunted emotions, which gives the opportunity to maintain targeted behavior in a disaster.

At the end of the shock after some time restored a positive attitude to life and the normal functioning of the body. Mental and physical injuries coils are erased and no longer hinder a person to live.

But there is a catastrophic incident to the special forces, which do not go unnoticed. It normally includes the situation in which life and health were subjected to a real threat. Post-traumatic stress disorder is a reaction to such a situation.

The Participants and witnesses of the catastrophe suffered psychological shock, can't go back to a normal existence. They are in the power of traumatic memories. They are not leaving a feeling of helplessness in a threatening world.

Among the traumatic events that cause PTSD, are as follows:

  • Military actions;
  • Terrorism (hostage taking, explosions, etc.);
  • Catastrophic events in nature;
  • Transport disasters;
  • All physical forms of violence;
  • All cases of rape;
  • Surgical and other types of trauma treatment (often affects children).

This enumeration is not exhaustive. Post-traumatic stress disorder can be triggered by any event that represents a danger to the health or destroys normal life. It is important that such an event even before the disease causes severe sensory shock and physical shock.

The Symptoms of PTSD is important not only for doctors but also for patients themselves. They must understand that they need treatment and time to assume what exactly sick.

There are four symptom of PTSD.

  • Flashback-episodes (recurrent and Intrusive experience sensations and perceptions of injury); dreams, nightmares, repetition of intolerable experiences and without them; at the slightest reminder of the trauma-psychological distress (symptoms of fear, depression) and physical discomfort (increased heart beats, feeling shortness of breath, nausea, sweating, etc.).
  • Avoidance (the patient is not involved in the events and does not communicate with people, reminding him of the trauma).
  • Impoverishment of feelings and isolation from society (uninteresting daily events; feelings – emptiness and feeling like a stranger; the life of the losers – the work will always be bad, the family will never be happy to live there a little).
  • The Nervous system has increased excitability (hard to fall asleep, light sleep or even a long time no; the patient is irritable and prone to anger; it is difficult to gather attention; vigilance; a fear for a stupid reason – slammed the door, the phone rang, etc.).

There are the secondary symptoms of PTSD, which makes it similar to depressive-anxiety disorder. It – the sudden onset of headaches, from which it is difficult to get rid of obsessive loneliness, unwarranted shame, suicidal thoughts. With the steady presence of these symptoms you should contact your doctor if the patient, along with PTSD, anxious-depressive disorder as an additional condition.

Developed effective psychotherapy, by which the disorder is actually cured. Its purpose – to translate destructive feelings, thoughts and behavior of the patient in a constructive direction. It's called cognitive-behavioral (cognitive-behavioral) therapy. Along with her use of the experience of family and supportive psychotherapy.

Apply a combination of antianxiety drugs (anxiolytics) antidepressants. But this treatment is mainly aimed at combating diseases associated with PTR – in particular, with depressive-anxiety disorder.

Despite the common opinion about the treatability of PTSD, there is the problem of repeated episodes. Relapses (returns) the disease may occur years after the cure of her symptoms.

Requires a lot of patience and joint efforts of doctors, social workers, family members of the patient and, of course, himself, to each time in the case of relapse, carefully work out the necessary aspects of treatment. Only in this case the opinion of PTSD as a disease amenable to therapy would be justified.
