Nowadays, people are trying to ensure their safety by any means available. It's scary to live knowing that you are not protected in any way. Most apartment thefts occur from the fact that anyone can freely enter the entrance of an ordinary house. And then – a matter of technique. To prevent this from happening, for some time now the entrance doors in houses are equipped with special devices with which residents can decide for themselves who to let into the entrance. Such a device is called an intercom. It consists of four main parts: a call block, an intercom, a lock and a key. The intercom handset is an integral part of any intercom device. It allows you to establish contact between the visitor and the owner of the apartment. In addition to the possibility of communication, the handset is equipped with elements that give it additional features:

• A light indicator that indicates that a signal has been received by the system;
• A lever that allows you to turn off the subscriber device;
• An audible call signal;
• A ringer volume control;
• A device for selecting signal melodies.

The intercom handset is usually installed in the subscriber's apartment and mounted on the wall at the front door. The intercom device is installed at a height not higher than one and a half meters from the floor level.

Variety of designs

Depending on the type of intercom, audio and video intercoms are distinguished. The first option allows you to communicate with the guest at a distance and, if necessary, use a special button to open the entrance door to the entrance. The second type of intercom has a screen on which, with the help of an outdoor video camera, you can conduct covert surveillance. On the monitor, you can see the visitor and part of the space in front of the camera, depending on the viewing angle. The handset for the intercom is present in both devices. In practice, analog and digital intercom systems are mainly used. There is also a separation according to the principle of communication of the call block with the subscriber: coordination-matrix and direct addressing. The second option provides for a separate button with the apartment number on the call panel. That is why the first option is more often used for apartment buildings. In some cases, the handset for the intercom of a particular system can be interchangeable.

The customer only has to choose the type of communication means: audio or video, a conventional model or a device with additional features. An important role here is played by the cost of equipment. Everything will depend on the chosen system, the country of manufacture and the supplier. When installing the system in a residential building, the number of apartments in the entrance plays an important role, since the total cost of installation will be proportionally divided between users. There are cases when one of the neighbors did not have time to connect with everyone. In this case, the service organization can perform additional installation of the subscriber device. The cost for the tenant in this case will be slightly higher, as additional technical work will be required. During operation, the intercom tube itself sometimes fails. The replacement price in this case will include the cost of the device and the services of a master for its installation and health check.

Convenience and comfort

A speaking tube for an intercom is an object that you have to contact repeatedly during the day. That is why it is necessary to carefully approach the issue of choosing a personal subscriber device. It should be as convenient and functional as possible. For example, the mute lever is very useful for the elderly and mothers with young children. With it, you can easily turn off the sound of your device, and no one outside will be able to disturb until the signal is turned on again. Sometimes a standard melody can cause negative emotions and create a kind of discomfort. This problem can be easily solved with the help of a special device that will allow you to choose a signal that is pleasant to the owner.
