Almost two centuries, a small Principality just had no idea how to properly dispose of their independence. The Constitution was adopted, organized a constitutional monarchy. At first has changed several rulers, and only Franz Josef II, who used people's love, could gain a foothold on the throne.
The Son of Franz Joseph II, Prince Hans-Adam II first studied in the ordinary school in Vaduz, then was transferred to Schottengymnasium in Vienna. The reason for the scandal became a terrorist organization that allegedly receive money through Liechtenstein, and criminal gangs that “launder” funds through a small Principality. Hans-Adam II immediately tried to put pressure on the government to initiate an investigation. The government, of course, refused. Explained the refusal by saying that the extension of the powers of Prince – this is a step backwards, a step towards absolute monarchy, which remained a relic of the past. Then the Prince, who at the beginning of the reign was not allowed to rewrite the Constitution to expand the powers of the monarch, ventured into the scandal.
The Prince of Liechtenstein Hans-Adam II, then publicly declared that if the government members will not listen to him, he will move to a neighboring country. Of course, move together with the family and all the financial capital. Total capital of the Royal family is estimated at five billion dollars, and for such a small country leaving the economy so significant amounts may caused the political death. The long-awaited referendum, which significantly expanded the powers of the Prince, occurred in 2003.

Hans repeatedly stressed that even small countries (like Liechtenstein) can and should actively participate in international relations, contributing to the preservation of peace and cooperation between the two countries.
