Mikhail's a lot of socially significant poems in which he evaluates society and tries to understand what to expect in the future. Analysis of "Duma" Lermontov allows to determine that the work belongs to the type of the satirical elegies. The poet has composed a verse in 1838, in the sense it is very similar to the poem “Death” if the author was accused of inaction and cruelty court society, there is blame all the nobles, their indifference and refusal to participate in social and political events says "Duma".
Lermontov wrote a poem in the form of the Elegy, it specifies the amount and size of the work. But then there's satire, as the poet speaks about his contemporaries with his usual sarcasm. Mikhail was by nature a fighter, and he despised the people, resigned to circumstances that have no purpose in life and aspirations. The poet is skeptical about social system, which leads nowhere, not giving the citizens the right of choice, he understands that his generation is waiting for the unenviable fate, it is old, and not having to apply that knowledge.
Analysis of "Duma" Lermontov emphasizes that the age of the writer could not decide on a desperate step and to oppose the tsarist regime, because they were taught by bitter experience of their fathers – the Decembrists. Descendants realize that they are powerless to change, and the rebellion will be severely punished, so they prefer to remain silent, and all their knowledge and skills to direct in a barren science. These people are not peculiar to passionate expression of feelings, they do not do noble deeds and even afraid to admit to themselves the desire to help others, to make the world better.
