Alexei Tolstoy-the famous Russian Soviet writer, a subtle psychologist and deseved, author of socio-psychological, fantastic and historical novels. His famous trilogy “purgatory” describes the fate of the Russian intelligentsia in a dying, crumbling of Russia: in the novels depict the events that took place from 1914 to 1941. In a work “Peter” the writer also describes the historical realities, but turns his gaze back to the Petrine era. In the story “the Hyperboloid of engineer Garin”, adventurous utopia, Tolstoy offers readers his version of the future in which ambitious young scammer using the latest laser weapons captures the island in the Pacific ocean and maintains its dictatorship. Another story, representing doubtless interest for a wide circle of readers, – “Count Cagliostro".

Tolstoy Himself many times included this piece in the collections, but not immediately decided on the name: in 1921, the novel was published under the title “the damp of the moon”, later published as “loved”, but later became "Count Cagliostro".

"Count Cagliostro" can be attributed to several genre categories in a work clearly influenced by the mystical line, there are adventurous-picaresque element; at the same time, the author is not alien to some moralizing. The plot of the novel is simple: in the estate lost in Smolensk backwoods, accidentally hits a certain count Cagliostro, as he calls himself, a magician who can do real miracles. At the time, he made a lot of noise in the courtyard, flipping through his extraordinary talent with upside down the whole capital. As it turns out, in the manor it is as impossible by the way: the young master has long been hopelessly in love with a girl, captured in an old portrait, and refuses to draw attention to the animate of the fair sex. Who will help the unfortunate young man, if not a mysterious stranger, who does witchcraft?

Do You think the character ‘Count Cagliostro" Thick simply made up? This is not so. In fact, the mysterious count is considered to be a real person: his real name – Joseph Balsamo. He was born in 1743 in Palermo and became known as the famous adventurer and mystic. His life is rich in adventures: Cagliostro studied alchemy, traveled to the East, trying to learn the ancient secrets of the universe, practiced as a physician.
