Suzdal lakes: then and now

Suzdal lakes are a chain of three lakes, which is located in Saint Petersburg, namely in the Central area, close to the Poklonnaya hill.

History

Once upon a time, these lakes were a single body of water of glacial origin, which bore the name of Parkola. Along the banks grew the pine forest. In the middle Ages it housed the Orthodox Karelian village, whose inhabitants were engaged in agriculture. The middle of the XVIII century was marked by the fact that the lake passed into private hands, count Shuvalov. By this time it had already split into three parts and received its current name in honor of the Suzdal Settlements. After a hundred years in this place there is a holiday village and a train station. These objects are called Shuvalovo, and most of the streets of the village still bear the names of the members of this family.
