Since early childhood, Matilda loved to be the center of attention. She went to school on a pony, harnessed to a little coach, and reveled in the curious glances. In College, she too knew how to be a leader, although she was always compared with my sister. Even coming after school to the theatre, she became Kschessinska-2. The first was Julia. Choosing the place, the dancer drew attention to the most fashionable area of the time – Petrograd side. She found a suitable land on a Big Noble street and invited to create the most popular project architect – Alexander von Gogen.

It is characterized by the tendency to use natural forms, incorporating various elements of Eastern architecture, a harmonious blend of utility and aesthetics, the desire for decorative effect, strong external effects. All this corresponded to the time of the turn of the century, when there was a sense of the change of epochs, there was a search for new forms, ideas, new canons of beauty. Gauguin was a representative of the early Northern modern in St. Petersburg. In his buildings the style has not yet disclosed in full, but all the distinctive features of this trend in its buildings present.
The hotel features asymmetric shapes, the attraction to the use of natural materials, harmonious selection of shades textures and finishes in natural colours. Buildings in this style resemble the color and texture of medieval castles and the Northern rocky shores. Floral designs, finish majolica panels and mosaics – another feature of this area.
