RL2455HM – professional gaming monitor BenQ. Those who follow the competitive scene and most likely saw it in various competitions around the world, especially in major League games. NEC has earned a reputation as a maker of displays, where every millisecond counts, and RL2455HM continues this trend, becoming the official monitor of Major League Gaming 2013. Although the device is advertised as a screen for RTS games, it is extremely good in all gaming genres, including shooters, fighting games and fast action games.
It allows you to connect up to two HDMI devices, it also has one DVI-D and VGA (D-Sub). That should be more than enough for most players, given that the popular displays, such as the ASUS VH236H and VH238H have only the HDMI port. There are two speakers for stereo sound at 2 watts per channel. It's a bit, but the volume is enough not to worry about external speakers, unless you want higher quality and bass.
Stand and the case material is very good quality. Users are surprised by the ease with which the monitor can collect. Simply insert the stand into the base and slide it into the rear panel, fixing on the spot. Any tools you do not need. The red line is the base of the stand distinguishes the monitor from the simple black look of the competitors. Plastic display has a matte finish, except for the rack. Many people prefer this type of surface, as it requires less maintenance and prevents excessive accumulation of fingerprints on the case.

The monitor uses a matte TN panel with LED backlight that is quite common among the displays in this price range. TN panels are fast response time, and the manufacturer shows it at 1 MS. It's nice, as most monitors provide at least 2 MS. This time determines how fast the pixel can change color from black to white or in this case grey-to-grey. As a result, reduces the ghosting that is necessary for players. Display with a resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080) can correctly scale the content of the 16:9 format (such as 720p) without any major problems. Dynamic contrast ratio panel is 12 million:1 contrast - 1000:1. The monitor works with a refresh rate of 60 Hz, which might be disappointing to gamers who are used to 120 Hz. However, those who use the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, or even the newer PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, 60 Hz will not disappoint.
BenQ RL2455HM buttons large. Unlike most monitors, with specific menu items they are not related. This means, pressing any of them triggers the OSD menu. It is very convenient for players in a dimly lit or dark rooms, as the search for the right buttons often represents a set of trial and error.
For many years in their professional gaming monitors, the manufacturer uses a number of different technologies that include features such as Smart Scaling, Black eQualizer, AMA, and Instant Modes.
Of Course, monitor has basic functions such as dynamic contrast, brightness, color temperature, hue, saturation etc. By default, the switch of signal sources is hidden in the menu, but BenQ RL2455HM allows you to assign up to 3 special keys to invoke various display settings.
The TN Panel does not have better viewing angles – the gamma-curve is dramatically shifted when viewed from the side. The manufacturer claims that the monitor, they are equal to 170/160 degrees. Everything looks great when looking at the screen straight on at eye level, and the aforementioned gamma shift is evident when viewed from different angles. Can't really blame Motorola as it is a disadvantage of TN technology. 24-inch size is suitable for gamers who want to play solo, and while the monitor is at eye level, everything looks wonderful.
The RL2455HM Monitor from BenQ has a lot of customization options so that players who want to control all aspects of the image, very lucky. There are several picture modes, including standard, movie, photo, sRGB and Eco, RTS1, RTS2 and three player profile. These differences are small, with the exception of Eco which dims the backlight and parencymal color. You can also monitor black eQualizer, color temperature, hue and saturation. Some modes, such as sRGB, does not allow you to do some adjustments. Color temperature adjustment allows you to individually adjust the values of RGB, for example when calibrating a monitor a colorimeter. Black eQualizer enhances detail in dark scenes without directly alteringthe white level. This is achieved by adjusting the gamma curve for dark-gray.
The BenQ RL2455HM has several modes «smart» zoom, which allow you to process images with different aspect ratios and screen sizes. Although this is a unique feature, hard to remember, it has been applied. Importantly, RL2455HM scales up to full screen size and 1:1, which is more than enough for gamers. The owners do not recommend the use of most modes, Smart Scaling, since they disable the built-in function of AMA, leading to increased blur.
As the monitor BenQ 24" RL2455HM is designed primarily for players, it is very important the absence of delays. Still, it's the official display 2013 MLG and tournaments of Street Fighter. All picture modes provide identical values no matter whether the Instant Mode designed to reduce input lag. RTS 1, AMA=High and turned on Instant Mode give the gap a minimum of 3 MS, a maximum of 17.2 MS and an average of 10.2 MS. The average result of measurements – 10 MS, which is very good and corresponds to the parameters of other similar displays such as the ASUS VH236H. Users will have no problems during any serious gameplay, whether it's a professional gaming tournament or something.
The Owners, who have tested the monitor in the game Super Street Fighter IV, can easy to configure. Any difficulties with the implementation of time-critical combo was not. The screen was very clean and responsive. No additional latency when scaling a 720p signal to 1080p was not observed. The game on the Xbox 360 at 720p is as smooth as 1080p. This is good news for PlayStation 3 owners who do not have this feature in all games. Users are recommended to use RTS 1 AMA=High and Instant Mode is enabled.
BenQ 24" RL2455HM with movements cope quite well, but only with the right settings. The monitor has a mode AMA, which is a branded version of the system manufacturer's overclocking panel, which reduces the response time to reduce motion blur. It has 3 settings: Off, High and Premium. When AMA is enabled there is a noticeable afterglow, especially in the Premium. When you turn off the afterglow is not observed, but motion blur increases. Users do not recommend disabling AMA, as it will disorient players. The High setting offers an ideal balance between these extreme settings.
BenQ RL2455HM – this is a great monitor for gamers who are looking for a display with a small delay. Its 1080p resolution will suffice for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Construction is good and the screen has lots of customization options. The TN panel is not suitable for those who need accurate color reproduction. The display is oriented for serious players who demand excellent response during game play and features such as black eQualizer and Smart Scaling.
