African tribes and their traditions

African tribes are of great interest for historians and researchers. In every corner of the continent, you can find unique settlement. Each tribe has its own history, traditions and culture. Some of them abandoned the comforts of civilization and continue to live in the lap of the nature. Other groups, on the contrary, gradually acquainted with the modern way of existence.

The Makonde. These African tribes inhabit the southern part of Tanzania. Their settlements can be found in the North-East of Mozambique. The population is about 700 thousand people.

The tribe has its own history. For three centuries the people resisted the British and Portuguese colonizers who arrived in search of the African treasures of ivory and slaves. In addition, the Makonde quite a long time repel the attacks of the warlike neighbouring tribes.

All the warriors of the tribe — the brave people who are not afraid of death. Their religion claims that after the death of a corporal envelope, the energy of the soul does not die, but is transferred to another location. That is why people try to communicate with deceased friends and relatives, to respect the memory of them.

The Makonde are considered to be skilled sculptors. Their metal figures can be seen at numerous exhibitions and in private collections.

Nuba — wild African tribes, who number barely reaches 10 thousand people. This community is completely cut off from the outside world — there is not taken the influence of foreign civilization.

Very interesting are their wedding traditions. Every year is organized the feast, which ends with traditional dancing girls. After the dance, each lady comes to their partner and demonstrates your interest, throwing a leg on his shoulder. Then there is sexual contact, which, incidentally, does not oblige the girl to marry. Even pregnancy and childbirth are not the reason for marriage. First, a man should build a house. If the girl agrees to move in with him, then they can together to sleep.
