Iliac region represents one of the parts of the rear wall of the abdomen and depression. Its upper border is the iliac bone (PC), in particular its crest, anterior border – the beginning of bones and ligaments, internal – junction with the sacrum, the lower boundary is unmarked line. PC when it acts as the skeleton of this region to which are attached the muscles of the back wall of the abdomen. Together muscles and bones form a dense case.

Thus, to the sacrum on both sides attach large iliac bones, which have rounded tops, so well be felt on the human body.

The Ilium is the largest of all the bones that form the pelvic region of the human skeleton. Its lower part and somewhat thickened referred to as a PC body, which forms the upper part of the acetabulum. With the body of the Ilium connects the sacrum and the femur. In puberty the PC fused with the pubic and ischial bones in the center of the acetabulum, thus forming the pelvic bone.

On the inside of the body is the line in the form of an arch, and above is a wide part of the bone, called wing PC, the lower part of which is narrowed, and the top – extended. The edge of the wing is thickened, it is attached to the muscles of the abdomen, traces of which are imprinted on the bones in the form of three lines (lips): outer, inner and intermediate. It should be noted that the upper part of the wings are called The crests of the iliac bones. The crest has an S-shape and ends in front of the front of the upper PC, which can be felt on the human body through the skin, behind – the rear upper iliac bone.

Note that the front edge of the Ilium coalesces with the pubic bone and the rear edge is bordered by the sciatic notch. The outer part of the wing is the site of attachment of the gluteal muscles and the inner part of the wing, called the iliac fossa, is ear-shaped articular surface, which is a place of connection with the surface of the sacrum. Above it is the iliac tuberosity which serves for attachment of ligaments.

Iliac fossa is the site of attachment of the iliac muscle. It attaches to the lumbar muscle and originates from the upper part of the fossa, internal lip of the crest and anterior sacral and lumbar ligaments. Along with the psoas major muscle iliac muscle Involved in the formation of muscle mass of your abdomen (rear). Its functions include the flexion of the hip.

So, the upper part of the PC are rounded, front and back form two lugs, and the outer part is slightly elevated. In General, the topography of the bones depends on the muscles, the attachment points are formed different lines, ridges, pits and spine.

So The Ilium is one of three components that form a single hip bone. In humans, it connects with the sacral bone (fusion of five vertebrae) and in the area of the acetabulum is fused with the other two components of the pelvis. In this area are attached to the muscles, in particular the ilio-lumbar, which due to its contractions causes the limb to move forward, that is, controls their movement, and stabilize the pelvis, Flex hip and lumbar spine.

Summing up, it should again be noted that the Ilium, the function of which is to fixing muscles, Participate in the process of formation and control of the movements of the lower extremities. Connected with joints and driven by muscles PC also forms protection for soft body parts, while his smooth movements. Besides, being part of the human skeleton, the ileum serves as a backbone to which are attached other parts of the body, namely the lower extremity.
