The Establishment of the presidential form of government in our state was a difficult process, it happened relatively recently. First, Russia was a monarchical power, at the head of which stood the king, and the power was hereditary. After he accomplished the Great October socialist revolution, power in the state, called the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), began to belong to the Communist party. The head of state became the Secretary-General.

This position lasted until the coming to power of Mikhail Gorbachev, who introduced the state President of the Soviet Union. He became both the first and the last President of that state. In the future, the position of the head of state determined the presidential election. Of the year in Russia who participated and the results of the vote – the subject of this article.

The very first presidential election in Russia

The first presidential elections took place in June 1991, as a result of them in a senior position was elected Boris Yeltsin. At the beginning of March, 2 numbers, presidential elections were held. The results were quite predictable – defeated Putin's protege, Dmitry Medvedev. Second place went to Zyuganov, the third-Zhirinovsky, respectively, the latter was Bogdanov.

The Third term of Vladimir Putin

Following the presidential elections in Russia took place in March 2012. Vladimir Putin, who served during the reign of Medvedev's Prime Minister, decided to participate in them. The following was interpreted the text of the Constitution, which States that the President can not serve more than two consecutive terms. In the end there was an opinion that after Medvedev's presidency the third term is obtained by “row”, and Vladimir Putin quietly announced his candidacy for the election.
