Solidarity according to Durkheim

About what is solidarity, said the great philosopher and theorist Emile Durkheim in his works, exploring society and the concept of division of labor. So, according to his opinion, by itself, a solidarity-is something moral that defies explanation, observation or measurement. He said it was the highest good, a huge value which can be accepted by all members of the same society. In his opinion, there are two types of solidarity-mechanical and organic. The first form is found in primitive communities, where a special division of labor did not exist, and the members of one group always performs approximately the same function. All were regulated by religious, traditional or collective views. The second type – organic solidarity – has been developing in the industrial society, when each individual performs its own specific function, working for the benefit of society as a whole. Thus, according to the philosopher, the collective pressure on such a person is significantly diminished.
