The largest concentration of volcanoes is located in the "ring of fire" of the Earth - the Pacific volcanic ring. It was 90% of all earthquakes in the world. The so-called fire belt stretches around the perimeter of the Pacific ocean. In the West along the coast from the Kamchatka Peninsula and to New Zealand and Antarctica, and in the East, passing through the Andes and the Cordillera reaches of the Aleutian Islands of Alaska.
One of the existing hearths a "fire zone" is located on the North of the island of Sumatra in Indonesia volcano Sinabung. This is one of 130 volcanoes in Sumatra is remarkable that for the last seven years continually active and attracts the attention of researchers and the media.
The First after four centuries of sleep, the eruption of the Indonesian volcano Sinabung began in 2010. On the weekend 28 and 29 August was heard underground a rumbling and rumbling. Many residents, about 10,000 people have fled from the awakened volcano.
On Sunday night, the volcano Sinabung woke up finally: the eruption began with the ejection of a powerful column of ash and smoke more than 1.5 km up. After the explosion Sunday was followed by more powerful Monday, 30 August 2010. The eruption took the lives of two people. Only about 30,000 nearby residents were forced to leave the house and covered with volcanic ash field with dead crops. In the photo below, the inhabitants running away from clouds of ash.
The Second eruption of the Sinabung volcano began on 6 November 2013 and then lasted a few more days. The volcano threw ash plumes to a height of 3 km, the plume from which was transported for tens of kilometers. More than 5000 people from 7 surrounding villages were evacuated. The government of Sumatra urged not to approach the volcano Sinabung more than 3 km.

In February 2014, disaster struck. After the cessation of volcanic activity (in early January), evacuated residents of villages located more than 5 km from the volcano, were allowed to return home. But immediately after this, on February 1, powerful burst of lava and pyroclastic flow has claimed the lives of 16 people.
And still the Sinabung volcano doesn't calm down: a column of ash and smoke visible for many miles, eruptions of varying strength and duration, do not stop and take the lives of those brave enough to return to the exclusion zone of the volcano a radius of 7 km, which after the disaster of 2014 was organized by the government of Sumatra.
It is Noteworthy that the exclusion zone can be found entire cities and villages, ghosts, collapsing, empty, as if the Apocalypse has engulfed the Earth. But there are courageous farmers who continue to live at the foot of the volcano Sinabung. What attracts them so?
The Soil on the slopes of volcanoes are very fertile due to the minerals that come from volcanic ash. In warm climates you can't grow one crop a year. Therefore, the farmers of Sumatra, in spite of the dangerous proximity of the volcano Sinabung, do not leave the house and arable land at its foot.
In Addition to farming they mined gold, diamonds, ore, volcanic tuff and other minerals.
Among people who don't live in a geologically active area, a common cliché that a volcanic eruption is linked to the flow of lava which rushes down the mountainside. And if a person lucky enough to be or settle and sow the crop on the opposite side, the danger passed. Otherwise, you just have to climb higher on the rock or float on a stone chip among the lava-like on the ice on the water, the main thing - not to fall. And the best time to cross to the right side of the mountain and wait an hour or two.
The Lava, of course, deadly. As the earthquake that accompanied the eruption. But the stream moves pretty slow, and physically full of people able to get away from him. Earthquake is not always the case of a large magnitude.
In fact, a huge danger is posed by pyroclastic flows and volcanic ash.
The Hot gas that escapes from the bowels of the volcano, catches the stones and ashes and sweeps away everything in its path, rushing down. Such flows reach a speed of 700 km/hour. For example, you can imagine the train "Peregrine" at full speed. Its speed is approximately three times less, but despite this, the picture is quite impressive. The temperature of the gases in the rushing mass reaches 1000 degrees, it can burn all life on the road in minutes.
One of the most deadly pyroclastic flows, known in history, destroyed from 28,000 people (according to some estimates up to 40,000 people) in the port of Saint Pierre on the island of Martinique. May 8, 1902, in the morning, the volcano Mont Pelee, at the foot of which was situated the port, after a series of monstrous explosions threw a cloud of hot gas and ash, in a few minutes reached the settlement. A pyroclastic flow swept through the city at a breakneck speed, and there was no salvation even in the water, which instantly boiled and killed all who fell into it with an inverted ships in the Harbor. Only one ship managed to escape from the Bay.
In February 2014, this flood killed 14 people during the eruption of the Indonesian volcano Sinabung.
At the time of the volcanic ash and quite a large stones are thrown out by the volcano, can burn or cause injury. If we talk about the ash that covers everything around it after the eruption, the impact is more long-lasting. Was even beautiful - post-apocalyptic landscape from the island of Sumatra in the photo below is a proof.
But the ashes are harmful to the health of people and Pets. Without a respirator to walk through this place for a long time can be dangerous. Also, the ash is very heavy and, especially when mixed with rain water can break the roof of the house, hit her on those inside.
In Addition, in large quantities it is harmful for agriculture.
Cars, planes, water treatment plants, even of the communication system - all goes down under a layer of ash, which is also indirectly poses a risk to people's lives.
Not only the farmers, for reasons which are very understandable, can be found near the epicenter of the recent eruption. Adventure tourism on the slopes of active volcanoes brings income to the local population. Photo a tourist thrill-seeker who explores the abandoned city at the foot of the volcano Sinabung in the exclusion zone. Behind him you can clearly see the column of smoke steaming above the volcano.
Man and nature continue to keep each other an unequal battle!
