Astrakhan state United historical and architectural Museum-reserve (AGOAS) — this is one of the most important scientific, cultural and educational institutions of the Volga and the Caspian. Brief history

The Beginning of the institution which is today known as Museum of Astrakhan, was laid in December 1837. The initiator of its creation was the Governor Ivan Semenovich Timiryazev. In “Provincial Museum” was originally exhibited private collections. In 1862 the institution was closed because of lack of funds. In 1888 the collection was transferred to the Petrovsky society. Three decades later the Museum exposition was placed in the building of “Urban institutions” in which they are at the moment. Already in the Soviet period, in 1974, the Museum was transferred to the Astrakhan Kremlin. It became the basis of AGOIAS created by the government of the Soviet Union in 1980.

Ground floor

A collection of objects of gold and other precious metals, which for many hundreds of years, began to take shape in the 2nd half of the XX century. You can see the exhibition every day except Monday from 10.00 to 19.00 (Thursday until 21:00). Offices are open from 10.00 to 18.00.
