The Airport of Ulan-Ude – Russian air transport hub of Federal significance. Here served both domestic and international flights. It is located near the capital of the Republic of Buryatia and lake Baikal.

History

In 1925 on the territory of modern airport of Ulan-Ude, landed the aircraft Volkovaya and Polyakova, who participated in the flights on the route Moscow-Beijing. In 1926 launched the first regular flight to Ulan Bator, also began to land the aircraft, which was carrying out flight from Moscow to Vladivostok and from Irkutsk to Chita.

In 1931 began the construction of a new airfield complex, which until 1941 was actively developing air transportation in the territory of the Republic.

A New concrete runway was built in 1971. At this time, the airport of Ulan-Ude begins to take domestic planes «Il-18”. By 1981 the runway was upgraded (it was increased by 0.8 km), built a Parking lot for planes that are allowed to make airplanes “the Tu-154”.

A New terminal building was commissioned in August 1983. By October of the same year there began to be served flights transferred from Chita airport in connection with its repair. In 1988-1989 starts service international transit and tourist flights, which was moved here from Irkutsk airport because of its reconstruction. During this period, the maximum observed workload of the airfield: sometimes a day were served to 70 flights.

In 1990 the annual volume of passenger traffic reached 800 thousand people. In 2001 there was a division of the airline for several organizations, and resulted in JSC “the international airport of Ulan-Ude”.

In 2007 included upgrading the runway and its lighting equipment, which provided the ability to send and receive aircraft of any type, regardless of the value of takeoff weight and time of day. 1.06.2010 opened regular flights to Ulaanbaatar. 29.10.2011 was made a flight to Bangkok. In 2012 was launched direct flights to Beijing, Antalya and Cam Ranh. In 2014, the number of passengers amounted to more than 312 thousand.

Airport Name

Initially, the main airfield Buryatia was called Mukhino (named after the nearest settlement). In 2008 was given the new name of the airport of Ulan-Ude – Baikal. Despite this, the Federal government still call it Mukhino. The name of Baikal is applied, as a rule, in speaking and in the national media.
