What is HTTP Protocol?

The Hypertext Transfer Protocol (or HTTP) is the Foundation of data transfer for the World Wide Web. Such protocols constitute a structured text that uses logical links (hyperlinks) between nodes containing certain data. Thus, it is a way to exchange or transfer hypertext.

The HTTP Protocol operates as a function of the request-response in client-server model of computing. So, the web browser acts as a client, and website hosting is the server. The client sends HTTP request message to a server that provides certain resources (e.g., HTML files, and other materials), and then returns a response message. The response contains information about the request, and may also contain requested content in the message body.

The browser is the primary example of the user agent (the client). Other types of user agent include the software used for indexing by search providers, mobile applications and other resources that use or display web content.

The HTTP Protocol is designed to provide the intermediate network elements to improve or enable communications between clients and servers. Sites with high traffic often benefit from web cache servers that render content on behalf of upstream resources, reducing load times. The cache of web browsers it allows the user to reduce network traffic. Proxy server that uses HTTP Protocol in a local network, can provide connection for clients that do not allow a globally routable address, by relaying messages with external servers.

The HTTP Session is a sequential process of requests and responses. A client initiates a request by establishing a TCP connection to a specific port on the server and the latter listens on this port and waits for a request message. When it is received the server sends the status response message. The body of this message, as a rule, represents the requested resource, although it may be displayed and an error message or other information.

If we consider the purpose of the HTTP Protocol, it should be noted that it defines methods to indicate the desired action to be performed on the identified resources. The view of the displayed information (pre-existing data or generated dynamically) depends on the server implementation. Often such a resource corresponds to a file or script located on the server.

Occasionally these methods are used by web robots or some sites and you can make requests, regardless of main problem.
