The World that surrounds us, we can confidently call the world of sounds, because all around us are voices, music, birds, the sound of the wind. The sound waves help people communicate, obtain information about the world around them. Animal sounds are of equal importance. From the point of view of physics, sounds are mechanical vibrations propagating in elastic medium: water, air, solid and so on. Human ears can hear sound when sound frequencies are in the range of 16 to 20,000 Hz. Oscillations with higher or lower frequencies are inaudible to humans.

The Science of acoustics deals with the solution of various issues, including issues related to characteristics and properties of hearing. The subject of study of physiological acoustics is directly the organ of hearing, its construction, action and device. Architectural acoustics deals with the study of how sound waves in the room, considering the influence of the shape and dimensions of the room at the sound, studying the properties of materials in terms of proliferation and suppress the sounds. Musical acoustics deals with the study of musical instruments, examines the conditions for the best sound of an instrument.

Physical acoustics studies the sound vibrations, sound waves, and recently it also began to cover the fluctuations that are beyond the capabilities of the auditory system of a person.

Basic concepts of acoustics

The Advent of sound caused by mechanical vibrations of elastic bodies and environments. The air is for sound guide. This is proved by the experience of Robert Boyle. If you put any sounding body under the bell of an air pump, then as pumping from inside the bell air sound will become weaker. When the air under the bell end, the sound will completely stop.

During the oscillations of the body alternately creates a vacuum in the layer of air adjacent to its surface, then compresses this layer. As a result, the wave propagation in the air space begins with oscillation of the layer of air near the surface of the body.

As soon as the sound waves propagate in space, there is sound attenuation, which is associated with certain irreversible processes. The meaning is that part of the energy carried by a sound wave is absorbed by the environment.

The absorption Coefficient is the quantity, which is equal to the ratio of sound energy absorbed by the environment, to energy, which arrived on Wednesday. The absorption coefficient is influenced by the internal friction or viscosity of the medium, its conductivity, the density and the velocity of propagation of the wave.

Propagating in the medium, the wave ever reaches its limits. After this the border starts a different environment that consists of other particles and another in which the speed of sound. This boundary is the reflection of sound. The rarefaction of the particles is converted into concentration, and concentration – to discharge.

This effect happens because of the vibrations that the wave brings to the border of the environment are transmitted to the other particles of the environment and become a source of new waves. A secondary wave will spread not only in the second medium, but in the one from which it originally came. It will be the reflected sound wave.

On the border environments there is a partial propagation of sound in the second medium and the partial absorption of sound. The proportion of the reflected energy will depend on the ratio of density of the environments and the state of the surface section. For example, the reflection of sound waves propagating in air, from a liquid surface or a solid body is almost completely. Sound waves propagating in a solid, almost completely will be reflected at the boundary with air.

The phenomenon of reflection is directly connected to the occurrence of the echo. The essence of this phenomenon is that the sound comes from the source to certain obstacles, which will become the border of environments, and is reflected back to the center of the wave.
