Approaching the study of social structure and its elements, should be aware of certain limitations of this knowledge. So, according to B. Russell, the study of the structure of the object is not sufficient for complete cognition. Even in the analysis of the structure we are dealing only with the nature of the individual parts of a whole and the relationship between them. However, we inevitably lose sight of the nature of the relationship of this object with other objects that are not components of its structure. The social structure elements of social structure – these categories are not finite, samasamajist functional units. On the contrary, their proper functioning is defined by the relationships with other structures of human existence.
The Concept of structure in a broad sense this word means a set of functionally dependent elements and relationships between them forming the inner structure of the object.
In turn, social structure is formed by an orderly set of interacting, interrelated social groups, institutions and relations between them, the internal structure of society (social groups). Thus, society is the main semantic center, determining the concept "social structure".
Object Structure is characterized by the composition of elements in order of their location, dependence from each other. The connection between them can have positive, negative, and neutral. In the first case we are talking about raising the level of organization structures through data links, the second is a reduction in organization, the third – the ties have no effect on the level of organization in the structure.

The Basic elements of social structure can be divided into three large groups:
Man, considered as a single natural creature, a member of the species Homo sapiens, is defined as the individual.
B. G. Anan'ev distinguishes two groups of properties characterizing the individual – primary and secondary.
The Primary properties imply the presence of:
In conjunction the primary properties of an individual determine its secondary properties:
Thus, the question in this case is about the biological nature of the individual.
In other cases, the notion of the individual is used to represent it as social beings – representative of human society. However, his biological nature is also not excluded.
However, when it is necessary to emphasize the social nature of man, the concept of the individual often is replaced by the term “personality”. Personality characterizes the subject of social relations and conscious activities. In other interpretations, this concept is used to denote the system property of the individual, formed in joint activity and communication.
There are many definitions dealing with the concept of identity with one side or another, but every key point is the social characteristic of a person, the speaker element of the social structure of society. Whether in this case the biological essence of the individual less important than the public – a controversial issue that requires consideration, taking into account the specifics of a particular situation.
This concept is a relatively stable set of people, which are characterized by relatively similar conditions and way of life and also interests.
There are two main types of social communities:
In the first case we are talking about nominal groups are used as social categories, in the second – about functioning in society. In turn, the real social community can be of 3 types:
So, details of registration, demographic data provided by the residents of a particular city, are an example of statistical social community. On the other hand, if we are talking about the conditions for the existence of a category of citizens in fact, we can speak of a real social community.
Mass social communities is considered as formally unrelated to each other people, but taken as a collection, based on some behavioral characteristics.
Social groups acceptedinclude the totality of interacting with other people, sensing their relationship and the perceived other as a community.
In Group social community include large and small groups. Examples of the first are:
The Division of society along class lines is based on the criterion of relationship to the group ownership of the means of production and appropriation of benefits. The classes differ in the overall socio-economic and psychological characteristics, values, own “code” behavior.
Classification by strata (social classes) is based on the characteristics of lifestyle and labour members of society. The strata are of intermediate (transitional) social groups not characterized by a pronounced specific relationship to the means of production (unlike a class).
The primary social groups are usually attributed to a small number of set of people that come in direct interaction with each other, in accordance with the individual characteristics of the participants in this communication. Such element of the social structure is first and foremost a family. Also here you can include clubs, sports teams, etc. Relations within such groups, usually informal, to a certain extent intimate. Primary group act as a liaison between the individual and society, the relationship between them determines the social structure.
Elements of social structure, secondary social groups differ more volume than primary, and more formal, impersonal interaction between parties. The priority of these groups is the ability of group members to perform certain social functions and to achieve the relevant targets. As for the individual characteristics of the participants, they are sidelined. Such groups include, for example, working group.
Another important part of the social structure is a social institution. To this community include a stable, historically developed forms of organization of joint activity of individuals. These may include, in fact, an institution of the state, education, family, etc. the Task of any social institution – the realization of certain social needs of the society. In the case when the need becomes irrelevant, the institution ceases operation or remains as tradition. For example, during the Soviet reign in Russia, the religious Institute has undergone significant changes and has virtually ceased to function as a social institution. At the same time, it regained its status as fully and freely functions, along with other social institutions.
There are the following types of social institutov:
All social institutions as elements of social structure have their own ideology, a system of norms and rules, as well as a system of social control over the execution of these rules.
Despite certain similarities, social institution and social group as the basic elements of social structure are not identical terms, although can describe the same social community of people. A social institution aimed at the formation of relations of some kind between the people at the expense of institutional rules. Using the same data standards, individuals in turn form a social group. The activities of each social institution aimed at many different social groups in society define the appropriate institutional behavior.
Thus, the social structure elements of social structure are determined by a complex system of relations, from the level of individuals to large social groups. An important role is played not only by impersonal social relationships, but also informal, characteristic of reference groups.
