Erythrocytes, or red blood cells-the blood cells that are responsible primarily for the transport of oxygen from the lungs to the tissues of other organs, as well as for the excretion of carbon dioxide from the human body. Hemolytic anemia — this is a very dangerous condition of the body, which is associated primarily with the disruption to the structure of erythrocytes and their premature death.

Hemolytic anemia: causes

In modern medicine it is accepted to allocate two basic groups of such diseases — is a congenital and acquired form of the disease. Congenital anemia — it is in most cases hereditary diseases that are associated with a wrong structure of the wall of the erythrocyte, an uncharacteristic composition or shape of these cells. as for acquired diseases of this kind, they occur as a result of influence of several environmental factors.

For Example, acquired hemolytic anemia may result from mechanical damage to red blood cells or the impact of the antibodies of the body. But most often this condition develops when exposed to chemicals, including certain vegetable poisons and substances of animal origin.

Chemical toxins can affect the protein or lipid components of the cell wall, thereby changing the structure of red blood cells and causing their premature destruction. In addition, some substances affect enzyme composition of red blood cells, thus, change reactions inside cells, particularly the synthesis and modification of hemoglobin, which, in fact, responsible for the binding of oxygen and carbon dioxide.

As has been said, sometimes the red blood cells are destroyed by the impact of its own antibodies-this is an autoimmune hemolytic anemia. During this disease, as a result of infringements of work of immune system, the body produces antibodies that destroy their own premature and perfectly healthy blood cells. The most commonly acquired hemolytic anemia runs in the background of other systemic disease.

Hemolytic anemia: symptoms and diagnosis

The Signs of this disease directly depend on the form of the disease and the causes of its development. For example, hereditary forms of the disease manifest themselves differently than purchased. In most cases of congenital hemolytic anemia characterized by periods of relative well-being and exacerbation of the disease, or hemolytic crisis. During this crisis of a sick person usually feels distinctive signs of anemia-fatigue, dizziness. In some forms there is even an increase in temperature.

Quite often, hemolytic anemia accompanied by severe nausea turning into vomiting, abdominal pain. Red blood cells are destroyed mainly in the spleen or liver. Therefore, in such patients, the size of the spleen significantly increased, and sometimes changes the shape of the liver. It can be noted and the excessive paleness. Almost all patients experience jaundice, which can be as imperceptible and pronounced.

All of these symptoms are very important for the diagnosis of the disease. In addition, the shape, the stage of development of the disease and its cause determined by a thorough laboratory analysis of blood of a sick person.

Methods of treatment hemolytic anemia

The Choice of method depends on the form of anemia. For example, in hereditary diseases treatment to maintain the patient's health during the crisis.

In that case, if the anemia is caused by poisoning (the most frequently diagnosed arsenic poisoning), then the first thing to do is as soon as possible, bring the toxin from the body. After that, the patient is prescribed a treatment that aims to restore all organ systems.
