In our article we want to talk about "Khanka" nature reserve. It is located on the Western coastal plain Khanka, Chernihiv, Khorol'skiy, Kirov, Spassky areas of Primorski Krai. It was created the reserve in 1990 to protect wintering and nesting birds.
"Khanka" state nature reserve is located in the South-Eastern part of Primorsky Krai, on the shores of lake Khanka, near the Russian-Chinese border.
On the territory of the biosphere reserve is dominated by herbaceous marshes with meadows. Just live here forty-eight species of mammals, and four of them are listed in the Red book of Russia. Reserve "Khanka" has an area of more than 39,000 hectares. This included a large fresh water area of Khanka lake, which is surrounded by quite extensive herbaceous swamps.
The Coastal land of lake Khanka rich marsh, meadow and forest vegetation, the most important are considered to be herbaceous meadows and marshes. The coast is covered by numerous thickets of reeds, sedges, forb meadows.
But as forest plants, they are fragmented. Most of them are concentrated on Rusanovoj the hill. In this area grow aspen trees, Mongolian oak, Linden, velvet.
In 1971, the lake Xingkai / Khanka and adjacent territory was recognized by the aquatic wetlands of international importance. The idea of creation of the protected area appeared in the twenties of the last century. And only in 1990 was created the nature reserve "Khanka" - very young, even we can say that the youngest in the entire Primorsky region.

In April 1996, the governments of Russia and China signed the agreement on creation on the basis of Chinese protected areas “the Xingkai-Hu” and Khanka international protected land reserve "Ozero Khanka”.
On a small marshy tracts, a series of nature reserves. One of them – site “Pine”. It was organized by another in 1965. There are also wildlife sanctuaries such: “River" (1948), "Khanka" (1963), "Savior" (1962).
I Must say that the entire protected area is divided into five isolated sections:
Reserve "Khanka" is located in the zone of the monsoon climate. Because there are large seasonal and daily temperature variations. Winter in this region with little snow, and spring-cool and dry, summer-warm and rainy. During the year rainfall is very unevenly distributed. The coldest of the year month is January, the temperature can fall to-20 degrees. But the warmest time – July, when the thermometer set temperature of 20 degrees Celsius.
Primaticcio lowlands have alluvial character. They are formed from lake sediments, mainly silt and clay. The lake bottom is covered with sand. On the elevated parts are loam. But in lowland areas dominated by marsh and poloborota soil. The horizon of the peat is not very big - no more than fifty centimeters. And below that is clay, which is a waterproof layer, which causes baltistate soils.
As we have said, security area General purpose "Khanka" reserve – it is primarily low-lying meadows, with marsh and forest vegetation. Coast of the lake is overgrown with reeds and sedges. Trees grow interspersed with shrubs. At the foot of the hills you can see the grass meadows. Forests are very few. On the coast of the river Sungacha you can see areas of rare scrub oak and aspen forest. The Eastern shore of lake Khanka cover of broad-leaved thickets. I must say that the flora of the reserve includes the 712 species of vascular plants: 32 – timbers, 43 – shrubs, 3 – woody lianas, 9 – shrubs, 625 – herbaceous plants.
Bogs occupy about seventy percent of protected areas. Their characteristic feature is the simple structure. It is shown that, as a rule, dominated by one or two marsh plants that completely cover the occupied area. Here there are four types of marshes: sedge, vanikova-sedge, grass and cotton grass-sedge.
If we talk about the tall grass swamps, they consist mainly of cane, Rogozov, wild rice, sweet ordinary. This is the first stage of overgrowing of the pond. The subsequent draining of the developing sedge, and then vanickova-sedge swamps, which subsequently changed to vantovye meadows. It is these ponds are of great importance for waterfowl, which find here not only protection, but also need food.
Meadows, in turn, are divided into two types: raw, wet. So, vantovye meadows make up less than one percent of the total area. They are located primarily on wetland soils. Moist or profusely much.Characteristic plants – skullcap, uzkolisty Calamagrostis, Calamagrostis Langsdorf of. The grasses grow tall and thick.
But meadows Langsdorfii focused on swampy ground. They found only twelve species of plants. Grass and forb meadows also has more than ten varieties of vegetation.
But vanickova-forb meadows presented twenty grasses, including: bentgrass, Rue, Calamagrostis uzkolisty, bedstraw.
Reserve "Khanka" is a Paradise for shorebirds and water birds. All of them are here recorded 336 species. In addition it is home to six species of amphibians and seven species of reptiles, among them are well-known far Eastern turtle, listed in the Red book.
The Reserve is very important in terms of nesting and seasonal migrations of birds. In this region nests of 110 species of birds. Every year nest here are about 25 pairs of Japanese cranes 8 pairs Barskih cranes. The total number of each type of cranes comes to one hundred individuals. Lately, an increasing number of far Eastern storks, now they are breeding here up to 25 pairs. During the massive spring bird migration on the Khanka stops up to 500 thousand species of ducks, geese and swans. It really is an incredible sight. Just imagine how incredible the number of birds at the same time is concentrated within a single, albeit large body of water.
In Russia only in the "Khanka" reserve nest average white egret and reed sutor.
Conservation areas recorded 69 species of fishes, 9 of them listed in the Red book. In the waters of protected places to spawn melkogalechnyj yellowfin, perch-aukha, black Amur bream, and catfish Soldatova.
"Khanka" nature, animals which differ in species, can boast of very rare instances. I must say that on the territory of the protected area was many rare species listed in the Red book of Russia and Red book of Primorye, far more than in other sanctuaries. Reserve "Khanka" occupies the first position among the protected areas in Primorsky Krai. Of the 112 rare animals of this region 60 is found in the reserve.
There was also 45 species of mammals. The list of those who permanently lives in the area, includes 8 species of insectivores, rodents 12, 9 Raptor species, 2 lagomorphs and hoofed one. Rare mammals are represented by four species. They are all listed in the Red book.

Meadows with high grass home to many deer. In these places, as are transitions brown and Himalayan bears. Also on the territory of the protected zone live animals listed in the Red book of the Russian Federation. Among them the famous Amur tiger and red wolf, far Eastern leatherback turtle.
There are animals that regularly or occasionally visit a contiguous territory: the Himalayan brown bears, American mink, wild boars, tigers, spotted deer and red deer.
The reserve is on the island Ryabokon found Parking ancient people. The earliest finds belong to the stone age, they account for about 15 thousand years.
In addition, found and monuments of the early Neolithic, with 7.5 thousand years, and the late Neolithic (5 thousand years), the bronze age and the iron.
Scientists believe the reserve is a unique place where in a small area concentrated a lot of archaeological finds related to the most different epochs.
It was a surprising place - "Khanka" reserve. Primorsky Krai nowhere else has such a number of archaeological sites.
From a scientific point of view, at the reserve are absolutely unique objects. One of them is the community of Oxytropis Khanka living on Cape Arseniev, Cape Przheval and island Pine.
In addition, protected lands grow (in the mouth of the river Silt) unique thickets of Nelumbo nucifera.
But the mouth of the river'gunovka boasts the largest colony of herons in the far East. During spring migration this place is huge flocks of birds.
Ryabokon island, on the southern shore, is the only place in the littoral, where it grows licorice blennosperma, listed in the Red book of Primorye.
The Nearest city to the reserve – Spassk-dal'niy. Here is the Khanka administration of the protected area. It is located 220 kilometers from Vladivostok. From it in Spassk-Dalniy you can travel by bus. He walks only once a day.
Address of administration: Primorsky Krai, city of Spassk-distant, street gospel 10.
"Khanka" reserve – the youngest in Primorye. However, the lake Khanka locatedon its territory, has long been a reserve for birds of international importance. In fact, the purpose of the reserve was the study and preservation of the natural phenomena and processes, the increase and preservation of the gene pool of flora and fauna. The environmental protection regime of the territories affected by large concentration of endangered and rare plants and animals. The reserve is a unique place with a great concentration of birds, which makes it unique and extremely important for migratory birds.
