Social status

The Social situation – the status of a person defined by his origin, job, economic level, gender. Thus, the individual can be attributed to any class. The social status of the person is subdivided into several levels. Consider them all.

A natural position – it is a status obtained by a person at birth. For example, it may be race, gender or nationality. Natural born status remains with the person throughout his life, i.e. he does not change. However, there are some exceptions. For example, the status of a member of the Royal family, which has given birth, may be cancelled at the end of the monarchy.

Acquired social position is characterized by mobility. This position, post, financial level achieved by their own efforts. For example, a person from a poor family he started his own business and generates capital itself. Or individual gets a raise at the office.

There is also a prescribed position. That is the status that a person receives regardless of their actions and desires. For example, it can be social status, determined by their origin or age. Considering the status can be either acquired or congenital.

As already mentioned, the social situation of the person is characteristic mobility. That is, the individual can climb the social ladder and to get down on it. This mobility increasingly positive impact on society. This generates healthy competition, the appearance of professionals.

Social mobility is influenced by many factors. Consider the main ones. Position in society is determined not only by position or financial condition, but also age, gender, skills, education. In addition, the criteria for awarding a person a certain status depend on the traditions of a particular country. People can belong to the same groups, but their social position can differ dramatically. For example, one person may be a Director of the company, and all the rest – only rank and file workers.

So, to sum up. Each of us from birth is awarded a certain social status. Each individual's standing on any rung of the hierarchy under consideration. Social status is determined not only by position and earnings, as often assumed, but also by age, origin, gender, education, skills, and many others.
