It's Hard to say when I first raised the question about the appearance and formation of the person. This problem wondered how the thinkers of ancient civilizations and our contemporaries. As the society develops? Is it possible to identify certain criteria and the steps of the process?

Society as a system

Every living creature on the planet is a single organism, which is characterized by certain stages of development, such as birth, growth and death. However, nobody exists in isolation. Many organisms tend to join groups within which they interact and affect each other.

Man is no exception. Together based on shared attributes, interests and activities, people form the society. Inside it are formed certain traditions, rules and customs. Often all elements of society are interrelated and interdependent. Thus, it develops as a single unit.

social evolution

Social evolution implies a leap, a transition of society to a qualitatively different level. Changes in the behaviour and values of the individual to the rest of us and are transferred to the whole society norms. So, people moved from the herd to the States from gathering to technical progress, etc.

Social evolution: the first theory

The Essence and laws of social evolution has always been interpreted in different ways. In the XIV century philosopher Ibn Khaldun was of the opinion that the society is developing exactly like individual. At first he is born, followed by dynamic growth and prosperity. Then comes decay and death.

In the age of enlightenment one of the main theories was the principle “stadial history” companies. Scottish thinkers were of the opinion that the society rises in four stages of progress:

  • Hunting and gathering,
  • Animal husbandry and nomadism,
  • Farming and agriculture
  • Trade.

In the nineteenth century in Europe, there are the first concept of evolution. The term from Latin means “deployment”. He presents the theory of the gradual development of complex and diverse forms of life from unicellular organism through genetic mutations in his offspring.

Slavs (under this name), according to some researchers, appeared in the story only in 6 century ad. However, the language of nationality bears the archaic features of the Indo-European community. This, in turn, suggests that the origin of the Slavs h...

The Idea of the formation of the complex from the simple was picked up by sociologists and philosophers, considering this idea is also relevant for the development of society. For example, anthropologist Lewis Morgan has identified three stages of ancient people: savagery, barbarism and civilization.

Social evolution is seen as a continuation of the biological formation of species. It is the next stage after the appearance of Homo sapiens. So, Lester ward took it a logical step in the development of our world after cosmogenesis and biogenesis.

Man as a product of biological and social evolution

Evolution has resulted in the emergence of all species and populations of living beings on the planet. But why people have gone far beyond the others? The fact that in parallel with physiological changes, acted, and social factors of evolution.

The First steps to socialization made not even human, and APE, picking up tools. Gradually skills improved, and already two million years ago by a skilled person who is actively using the tools in your life.

the social evolution of man

However, the theory about such a significant role of labour is not supported by modern science. This factor acted in combination with others, such as thinking, speech, unite in a flock, and then in the community. Already a million years appears Homo erectus-the predecessor of Homo sapiens. He not only uses but also makes tools, kindle fire, cooks food, uses primitive speech.

The Role of society and culture in the evolution

A million years ago, biological and social human evolution happens in parallel. However, 40 thousand years ago biological changes slow your pace. CRO-magnons do not differ from us by their appearance. From the time of their occurrence a greater role played by social factors in human evolution.

According to one theory there are three basic stages of social progress. The first is characterized by the appearance of art in the form of rock paintings. The next step is the domestication and breeding of animals and the occupation of farming and beekeeping. The third stage is the period of the technical and scientific progress. It starts from the XV century and lasts until now.

 social factors of evolution

With each new period, a person increases its control and influence on the environment. The fundamental principles of Darwinian evolution, in turn, recede into the background. So, for example, natural selection, which plays an important role in the “filter” weak individuals, not so influential. Thanks to medicine and other advances in the weak and the person can continue to live in modern society.

The Classical theory of development

At the same time with the writings of Lamarck and Darwin about the origin of life the theory of evolutionism. Inspired by the idea of constant improvement and progress of life forms European thinkers believe that there is a single formula that happens the social evolution of man.

One of the first hypothesis advanced by Auguste Comte. He identifies the theological (primitive, early), metaphysical andpositive (scientific, higher) stages of development of mind and attitude.

the social factors of human evolution

Supporters of the classical theory was also Spencer, Durkheim, ward, Morgan, and Tennis. Their views vary, but there are some General provisions which formed the basis of the theory:

  • Mankind seems to be a single entity, and it changes as a natural and necessary;
  • Social evolution of society occurs only from primitive to more developed, but its stages are not repeated;
  • All cultures develop according to universal lines, the stages of which are the same for everyone;
  • Primitive peoples are at the next stage of evolution it is possible to study primitive society.

Reject classical theories

Romantic beliefs about a stable improvement of the society go to the beginning of the XX century. World crises and the war forced scientists to take another look at what is happening. The idea of further progress is perceived with skepticism. The history of mankind it seems is not linear but cyclical.

In the ideas of Oswald Spengler, Arnold Toynbee appear echoes the philosophy of Ibn Khaldun of recurring stages in the life of civilizations. Typically, they are divided into four:

  • Birth,
  • Rise,
  • Maturity,
  • Death.

So, Spengler believed that from birth to decay of the culture is about 1000 years. Lev Gumilev took them 1200 years. Western civilization was considered close to a natural decline. Adherents of the "pessimistic" of the school was also Franz Boas, Margaret Mead, Pitirim Sorokin, Vilfredo Pareto, etc.

 biological and social human evolution

Neoevolutionism

Man as the product of social evolution re-appears in philosophy of the second half of the twentieth century. Armed with scientific data and evidence in anthropology, history, Ethnography, Leslie white and Julian Steward developed the theory of neo-evolutionism.

A New idea is a synthesis of classical linear, universal and multi-line models. In his vision, the researchers abandon the term “progress”. It is believed that culture makes sharp jump in development, but only slightly more complicated compared to the previous form, the change process occurs more smoothly.

The Founder of the theory of Leslie white the main role in social evolution takes culture, presenting its main tool for human adaptation to the environment. He brings energy concept, according to which the culture is developing a number of energy sources. Thus, he speaks of three stages of society: agricultural, fuel and fusion.

the social evolution of society

Postindustrialnaya and information theory

At the same time with other concepts in the beginning of XX century there is the idea of postindustrial society. Basic tenets of the theory are visible in the works of bell, Toffler and Brzezinski. Daniel bell identifies three stages of development of crops, which corresponds to a certain level of development and production (see table).

The Stage

The Sphere of production and technology

The Leading forms of social organization

Pre-industrial (agrarian)

Agriculture

Church army

The Industrial

Industry

Corporations

Postindustrial

Services

Universities

Postindustrial stage refer to the whole of the nineteenth century and the second half of the XX. According to bell, its main features are the improvement of quality of life, reducing population growth and fertility. The role of knowledge and science increases. The economy is focused on services production and the interaction of man with man.

As a continuation of this theory the concept of the information society, which is part of the post-industrial era. “Cook” is often distinguished as a separate economic sector, displacing even services.

 man as a product of social evolution

For the information society is characterized by the growth of infospecialist, active use of radio, television and other media. As possible effects of isolated development of a common information space, the emergence of e-democracy, governments and States, the complete disappearance of poverty and unemployment.

Conclusion

Social evolution is a process of transformation and restructuring of companies, during which it changed qualitatively different from previous forms. There was no General formula for this process. As in all such cases, the opinions of thinkers and scientists disagree.

Each theory has its own peculiarities and differences, but you can see that they all have three main vectors:

  • The history of human cultures are cyclical, they go through several stages: from birth to death;
  • Humanity evolyutsioniruet from the simplest forms to more advanced, continually improve;
  • The development of society is the result of adaptation to the external environment, it changes in connection with change of resources and not necessarily allsuperior to the previous forms.
