Tsar Ivan the terrible was known not only for its great reforms that allowed Russia to occupy a worthy place among the strongest powers of the time, but also by eccentricities, bringing on others no less horror than mass executions because of its unpredictability. One of these actions, king began a reign of Simeon Bekbulatovich. The date of his birth is unknown. At the same time preserved a lot of documentaries, often contradictory, evidence of his so-called Board.
About the childhood of a man, who later even briefly took the throne, know very little. Sain-Bulat Khan was the son of Bek-Bulat — a direct descendant of Genghis Khan and the Sultan of Nogai Horde. His grandfather Ahmet was the last ruler of the Golden Horde, which continued to hold in the political dependence of the Moscow princes.
Ivan IV invited Beck-Bulat with her son to his service. The old Prince was betrayed by the terrible and proved to be a good man, so after his death he caressed Sain-Bulat.
By order of the Emperor, the young Prince married the girl from the well-known boyar family — Maria Andreevna Kleopina-Kutuzova. And so he in his position was of the Russian nobility, as was of the lineage of Genghis, and marriage with a Russian aristocrat only strengthened his position.
According to the current practice of the Russian rulers gave invited Tatar princes as an inheritance to the whole city. So it was no surprise when in the late 60-ies of Simeon Bekbulatovich was appointed the Khan of Kasimov, at the same time he received the title of "servant", while even the highborn boyars called as "slaves of Ivan the terrible."

During the reign of Kasimov, Simeon Bekbulatovich took part in the Livonian war and in the campaigns on Paydu, Nut and Kolyvan. Then at the insistence of Ivan the terrible he was baptized and took the name Simeon. By the time Bekbulatovich was a widower and married again on the newly husband lost Princess Anastasia Cherkasy.
Because of that marriage, Simeon Bekbulatovich — the king Kasimov — intermarried with the Royal family, as his second wife his veins flowed the blood of Sophia Palaeologus.
In marriage, the couple had three sons and three daughters.
Until now, the reason why Ivan the terrible was put in charge of the state such an inconspicuous person like Simeon Bekbulatovich, remains a matter of debate among historians.
There are many versions. In the most common Ivan the terrible was made an omen of the imminent death of the ruler of all the Russias, therefore, planting on the throne of another person, he hoped to cheat fate. There is also a feeling that he wanted to depart on time in the shadows, to reveal their hidden enemies. Some historians have put forward the hypothesis that in this way the king wanted to divert the discontent of the people, came to himself after the horrors he had to endure in the period of the oprichnina, “turning the hands” came the Prince.
Whatever it was, in 1575 Ivan the terrible ordered to marry at the Kingdom of Simeon Bekbulatovich, who received the title of “Grand Prince of all Rus». He along with his family moved from the Kremlin to Petrovka. The country is formally divided, highlighting the Ivan Moscow, as decided from now on to be called the “ex” the ruler of the country, a small inheritance. There he started his own Council, which ran the Godunovs, Naked, and Belsky.
The new Emperor reigned for 11 months. During this time, according to foreign ambassadors, he confiscated monasteries and churches all letters patents of her for centuries, and was destroyed. In addition, formally, by order of Simeon, and in fact with the decree of Ivan the terrible was executed by some courtiers who were close to them after the oprichnina, but did not meet expectations. So had another “sweep” in the upper echelons of power.
Simeon Bekbulatovich and his reforms were not clearly perceived by the contemporaries, but of the troubles, which was feared Ivan the terrible had not happened.
Making sure that a political reshuffling was completed successfully, Ivan expressed "dissatisfaction" of the actions of Simeon and “had” to take back the scepter to repair the evil, the damage that he had caused the Church.
At least, the actions of Ivan IV was presented to the people and nobles in this way. The king was allowed to resume destroyed certificates, but gave them his own name, hold and adding to the sovereign's Treasury of the Church's lands. In addition, there were rumors that many of the Church hierarchy had to pay considerable sums to recover at least part of the property of its monasteries.
As reported to their governments foreign ambassadors, short of the Great Prince Simeon Bekbulatovich (the date of his accession to the throne is unknown, but scientists believe that it happened inOctober 1576) had enabled Ivan the terrible painless to take away a substantial part of the property of the Church and to show all unhappy that “perhaps even worse, the Board”.
After the ouster of Simeon Bekbulatovich (photo below) received orders to serve in Tver, where he was allocated a new destiny. However, he retained the title of Grand Prince, which was from Ivan. However, the latter simultaneously in the official documents it was called still the king. Deprived of power, which he so belonged only formally, Simeon Bekbulatovich has become one of the largest landowners of the time. According to the remained scribe roll of his estate, compiled about 1580, in the Tver and Mikulinskaya counties he had only one arable land to 13,500 acres. In addition, he was endowed with special privileges that give him the right to levy taxes and taxes in its favor, that it was not allowed rest, even the most high-ranking, serving people of Muscovy.
From the end of 1577 for 5 years Simeon Bekbulatovich took an active part in military actions against Poland. However, the results in this field he failed, as he had neither the courage nor the talent of the commander.
After the death of Ivan the terrible in 1588 the Grand Duke Simeon for some time been able to maintain its high position. However, approaching the throne, Boris Godunov began strongly to set the young Tsar Fyodor First against the Tver Prince.
As Tsar, Godunov ordered the boyars to swear to swear that they will not take any action to transfer the throne to Simeon Bekbulatovich or his children. In addition, it was soon found reason to eliminate a dangerous contender for power in the country: a close relative of Simeon Bekbulatovich — I. Mstislavsky — was involved in one intrigue against the all-powerful Royal brother-in-law, after he was arrested, the former «ruler of all Rus” fell into disgrace. He took away the estate, and San, but not exiled, allowing to live in their former specific capital Coraline.
Godunov's Fears were not groundless, as some nobles really were planning a conspiracy enthronement of the king, who had already occupied the throne with the consent of the Ivan the terrible. Conspiracy was attended by such well-known political figures of the time, as Feodor Nikitich Romanov and Belsky. Their intrigue was upset, and Simeon himself, according to some reports, blinded.
Lost his sight and fallen into disgrace Simeon Bekbulatovich began to seek solace in the Orthodox faith. He built temples and donated to the monasteries. From these classes he had to take time off under the reign of Dimitri the First, who first invited him to Moscow and caressed. However, this situation did not last long, and the poor man was sentenced impostor imprisonment in the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery. There are even document over his signature, instructing the Abbot to cut in monks Simeon Bekbulatovich and to write about him personally.
3 APR 1616, the former king took monastic vows under the name of Stephen. From this moment on Simeon Bekbulatovich, whose biography is reminiscent of the adventurous novel, lived almost like a prisoner.
His situation got even worse when Basil Shuya, solvem monks on Solovki.
The desperate days of your Simeon, aka the monk Stefan, graduated in Moscow in 1616 and was buried in the Simonov monastery.
Now you know who was Simeon Bekbulatovich, the years of life which can only be described presumably (1540-e — 1616). The reasons for the sharp turn in his life, in which he found himself on the Russian throne, are still the subject of discussions of historians, and is unlikely to ever be installed.
