There is No Belgian who'd never heard of ‘Leffe”. A beer with such a name widely known both inside the country and abroad.
It all Started many hundreds of years ago, when the monks of a remote Catholic Abbey “Notre Dame de Leffe” began to cook a wonderful ale. In those days this was done by many clerics in their secluded abodes. They called the drink “Leffe”. The beer has received such a name, as a tribute to the place where the priests lived and were treated daily with pleas to God. It was in the distant 1152. But in spite of that, this humble and hardworking people fate was destined to a hard fate. Over 750 years old ancient monastery was repeatedly plundered several times it was destroyed, suffered flooding and even burning after a RAID by the troops of Duke Charles. In the late 19th century the Abbey was confiscated by the new government, and novices were forced to leave their native abode. The opportunity to return came only in 1902. But only 50 years later the monks managed to restore the production of his famous “Leffe”. Beer regained its former glory. Since they were interested not only ordinary lovers, but the most famous producers of beer in the country. The largest beer company in Belgium “Interbrew” has acquired the right to produce products of this brand and since then started a real “era of Leffe”. And near the old Abbey, a Museum was opened “Leffe”. The beer of the same name in it – the main exhibit.
The Corporation «Anheuser-Busch InBev’, formed by the merger of two leading companies in the country, made popular by beer as one of its leading brands. Developed several names of well-known beverage, and the buyers already had a certain opinion about each of them.
