For over half a century every Armenian student who barely mastered the native alphabet, learns by heart a poem by Silva Kaputikyan “Look, son”. This poetess, whose works are in the Russian language sounded in the literary translations of Okudzhava, Evtushenko, B. Akhmadulina, and others, made a huge contribution to the development of Armenian literature and strengthening of cultural ties between the peoples of the former Soviet republics.
The Future poet was born in Yerevan in 1919. She had never seen his father, Barunka of Kaputikyan, who died shortly before her birth from cholera. Silva's parents were refugees from the city of van (now in Turkey). Before the First world war, Brunak worked as a teacher and was an active member of one of the oldest Armenian political parties-ARF. After it became clear that the city will be handed over to the Turks by Russian troops, he, along with other residents, survivors of van self-defense, left his homeland and moved to Eastern Armenia. Among the refugees were mother and Silva Kaputikyan — Leah.
In 1937, the future poet graduated with honors from the Yerevan demonstration school of a name of N. Krupskaya. Long before Silva Kaputikyan has already started to be printed in the newspaper «pioneer Kanch”, and her poem “the Answer Tumanyan” made it quite known among the Armenian youth. In 1941 she graduated the Philology faculty of YSU and became a member of the Union of Writers of ArmSSR. 8 years later she was sent to study to Moscow for Higher literature courses for them. Gorky. Silva Kaputikyan, biography which is quite typical for the representatives of the Soviet intelligentsia sincerely believed in the ideas of communism. At the same time she was engaged in active work aimed at the preservation of national identity of members of the Armenian Diaspora in all corners of the planet. In particular, Silva Kaputikyan has traveled almost all the countries where acted in numerous organized community consisting of refugees from Western Armenia and their descendants. Among them were many people who have attained great success in the field of business, science and art in host countries. In the years of Perestroika Silva Kaputikyan, despite age, has not remained aloof from the political changes in society. She took an active position on the question of self-determination of NKR. 26 Feb 1988, a poet with writer Thorium balanon met with Gorbachev to persuade him to contribute to the resolution of the Karabakh issue in favor of the exclusion of Karabakh from Azerbaijan.
Since the beginning of 1990-ies Silva Kaputikyan began to act with sharp criticism of the policies of the Armenian authorities, after the suppression of the opposition rally in 2004 returned to the Order of St. Mesrop Mashtots, the then President of the Republic of Armenia, Robert Kocharian.
Kaputikian Silva Burunkova for his long life, he created many works - both lyric and Patriotic. They were published in famous literary magazines, and in collections in the Armenian language (which, by the way, out of about 60). In addition, Silva Kaputikyan actively translated works of European, Soviet poets and writers from the Middle East.
Silva Kaputikyan was only one short-term marriage. Her husband was a famous Armenian poet Hovhannes Shiraz, famous for his poem “Dancecan”, dedicated to the Armenian genocide. From this marriage in 1941 a son was born — Ara, who later became a famous sculptor.
The merits of Silva Kaputikyan was appreciated by the authorities, Armscor, the Soviet Union and the Republic of Armenia.
The First award — the Stalin prize of the second degree — she received in 1952 for the collection of “My family”. In addition, she was awarded the order of October Revolution, Labour red banner, Friendship of Peoples, St. Mesrop Mashtots, Princess Olga of III degree (Ukraine) and others.
In 1988, she was awarded the state prize of the Armenian SSR, and after 10 years Burunkova Silva was awarded the title of “Woman of the year” (according to the Cambridge geographical Institute).
Kaputikian Silva Barankova (see photo above) died in 2006 and buried in the Pantheon of them. Komitas. Three years later, in Yerevan was opened the house-Museum of the poet, which regularly hosts educational and cultural events.
In recent years, her work is being actively discussed by young people and literary critics.
