Catherine Park - a historical place of rest

In Moscow between Suvorovskaya square, Olympic Avenue and Trifonovskaya street is located the Catherine Park. It takes quite a large area - 16 hectares. This picturesque town is a monument and a splendid example of landscape art.

History

Until the fifteenth century, the territory of the green zone was not developed. Its significant part is occupied by meadows, groves and pastures. Starting from the XVI century the area situated along the bed of the river flowing here Gravity, began to actively build up. Thus there appeared the Holy cross monastery, Tsarskoye Selo, and later – the Church Tryphon. In the eighteenth century in the area starting to built a country estate of count Saltykov V., near which was subsequently is a small Park with a pond. In the twentieth century the Catherine Park significantly transformed. Instead of the Church Trifon built hotel building CDKA, river Samoteka was enclosed in an underground pipe and through the green area paved Olympic Avenue. Today Ekaterininsky Park in Moscow features a Museum of the Armed Forces and the art Studio im. Grekov.
