Far East railway – the main passenger and freight artery linking the center of Russia with the areas adjacent to the Pacific ocean. Currently, the importance of this highway cannot be underestimated. More than a century of history of the far Eastern railway is of interest not only for enthusiasts but for all who care about our country's past.
The Idea of building a new railway occurred a long time – too stretched was communication hampered the delivery of goods to distant lands of the Empire. In 1886 the Governor-General of Eastern Siberia and the Amur region, there have been proposals to build several branch lines from Tomsk and Vladivostok to the remote settlements. Initially, the planned railway line was called the Ussuri. The name she got from the big Ussuri river, which flows through the vast territory of Primorsky region – from Khabarovsk to Vladivostok. Was separately planned two section of the main North-Ussuri branch covers the area from station Grafskaya to Khabarovsk. The southern section was planned to lead from the station to Vladivostok. The ceremonial laying of the first rail took place in 1891, in Vladivostok, in the presence of members of the Royal family and representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers. The first Foundation stone of the Vladivostok railway station was laid by Tsesarevich Nicholas – the future Emperor of Russia Nicholas II.
In 1892, Russia has embarked on the direct construction of railway tracks. A project Manager was appointed O. P. Vyazemskiy – an experienced Builder who has worked for nearly thirty years in various regions of Russia. On separate sites of highways of the work assigned to graduates of the St. Petersburg Institute of engineers ways of communication. For the materials needed was laid subsidiary unpaved roads, which later became an important transport arteries of the whole Primorsky region.
The Primary problem unexpectedly arose the question of providing construction labor. The locals proved to be too little – I had to bring the exiled prisoners and soldiers. By 1895 the number of persons serving punishment for criminal and political reasons, was about 11 thousand people. They were the permanent camp consisted of barracks, to guard the premises, bathhouses, canteens and oversight of the towers. As for soldiers, they were transported by sea a long way South from Odessa across the Atlantic and the Indian ocean. The voyage took several months, accompanied by flashes of tropical epidemics. The final destination was Vladivostok.
Thanks to the selfless work of the soldiers and the prisoners to 1894 he was commissioned in the southern Ussuri branch of the road, and three years later was completed and the Northern section of the route. Far Eastern railway, the station which covered the Amur region and the far East, began its existence.
Old Ussuri road in the original version had 39 stations. Among them – the station Ruzhino, founded by immigrants from Ukraine, a senior Mazovka (now Sibirtsevo), art Busse, named in honor of a Russian officer and Explorer of the far East region N. V. Busse. Forgot surveyors and civil engineers: the names of L. M. Rozengard, V. S. Ilovaisky, V. V. Peltier was named plots from Khabarovsk to Bikin. And now the far Eastern railway has 358 functioning stations in different parts of the path.
Currently, the far Eastern railway has about 7470 km of the total length of paths of them in continuous operation, there are more than 6000 km. Geographically this highway passes through the territory of five regions of the far East – Amur AO, Jewish AO, at the seaside, as well as the Khabarovsk territory, its offices are in the Republic of Sakha. Its influence it spreads to other regions of the Far East. Only in the zone of influence DVZHD is more than 40% of the territory of the Russian Federation.
The far Eastern railway borders at the station with a Hani-Siberian trunk-railway, and the stations of the Assault and Argali fit in with Zabaikalskiy railway. The entire length of its path divided into four areas, which are supervised by official bureaus, United under the auspices of the “far Eastern Railways”. Khabarovsk – Department НОД1, Vladivostok – НОД2, Komsomolsk - НОД3 and Tynda - НОД4. In addition, DVZHD is divided into two main areas – the Northern latitudinal railway and the main course. They are connected by a small parallel sections of road: Komsomolsk–Volochaevka-2, Tynda–Sturm, Lime–Urgal. This kind of logistics allows to create compositions throughout the paths.
Basic characteristics of the far Eastern railway give reason to consider it a major logistics and passenger routes in the region. Over the past 2015 in the ways of the far Eastern railway transported more than 42 thousand tons of cargo, and about 5 thousand people used the services of road far East as passengers. Magistral carries out transportation of domestic and international importance – it is smooth operation of interested entrepreneurs Japan, Mongolia, Korea and China, which sell their products on the territory of our country. The far Eastern railway artery rightfully occupies a leading place in the ranking of the transportation of exported and imported goods, which account for about one third of the total number of cargo transportation in the Russian Federation and more than a quarter of the transit of imported products to other States. Due to established logistics management DVZHD announced that in 2016 routes far East of the highway is planned to transport more than 116 million tons of cargoes to the ports of the Pacific ocean. Favorable growth trends in trade with Eastern neighbours allow us to predict a significant increase in rail traffic in the very near future.
As of 2015, the number of employees DVZHD was more than 40 thousand people, employed in the service of the railway. This highway provides local residents with jobs and confidence in the future.
Management of the far Eastern railway is under the direct supervision of the OJSC “Russian Railways” and is its structural branch. The position of the head of the far Eastern highway in 2015 is Maklygin N. V. Under his leadership, are all working plots, which operates the far Eastern railway. According to the chief of the Khabarovsk management DVZHD, preventing safe operation of the tracks and trains of the far Eastern railway is a priority. In 2015, the network of the far Eastern road was 18 accidents in which three people died. All accidents happened because of drivers, driving of motor vehicles and violating traffic rules.

To draw attention to the consequences of non-compliance with road safety rules, the railroad put in a prominent place several cars wrecked in the accident. Thus the railway workers tried to remind motorists about the risks that accompany the driver when crossing railway tracks. In addition to the staff the action was attended by employees of traffic police and representatives of the MUP "Transportation company”.
