Uzvar is a traditional dish of Ukrainian cuisine. It is considered a Christmas drink, as a symbol of fertility, wealth and family prosperity. According to ancient traditions, this rich compote of dried fruits should be sure to cook the day of the birth of a new family member that promised the health of the baby. This article provides a detailed description of how to cook fragrant uzvar. The recipe below will help you to easily cook delicious and healthy dish. Fresh ingredients (fruits and berries) in the composition is not included, although it is possible to obtain a rich "bouquet" to add any of the available close at hand.

Recipe for "Compote of dried fruits"

Composition:

  • 3 l water;
  • 200 g dried wild pear;
  • 200 grams of dry apples;
  • 200 grams in any ratio of each other prunes and raisins;
  • 1 full Cup of sand-faceted sugar or 3/4 Cup honey.

Preparation

  1. Loop through All the dried fruit and pour sufficient warm water. After 10-12 minutes and drain the fluid, shifting mass into a colander, rinse it under running stream of cold water.
  2. Place the remaining drying in a pot and fill with water.
  3. Place the container on a medium heat and bring slowly to the boil. It is not necessary to accelerate this process, as already during the warm up, the dried fruit saturate the solution with vitamins and minerals.
  4. Once boiling, note the cooking time - not more than 10 minutes. Before the readiness pour the sugar, stir until dissolved and turn off the heat.
  5. The Richness and flavor of the compote acquires during the infusion. Only after 2-3 hours he will get desired taste. It is best to cook the compote for the night and in the morning bring to the table. Honey is introduced in almost cooled down beverage. Optionally, the compote to drain. Of the remaining fruit pulp makes a great filling for sweet pies.

This dessert is brought to the desired consistency by introducing compote starch in the last minute of cooking. The more you add, the thicker viscous mass. Usually, 3 l of compote takes 4-5 full tablespoons of starch. Mix it in dry form with sugar, and then dissolve in a small amount of boiled water. After the compote with dried fruit sauce to boil for 5-7 minutes, start to pour a thin stream of the prepared mixture and continuously stir. At the first sign of bubbling turn off the heat and cover the pan. When the compote is almost completely cooled, pour it on transparent glasses and serve warm.
