biography of al-Farabi

Such was the life of Abu Nasr al-Farabi, a brief biography which does not pass in the fullness of his Majesty, can not be said about his writings.

Scientific approach to learning

So it was arranged the mind al-Farabi (biography doesn't mention them) that could span several scientific fields for study and development. He was well versed in many well-known during the middle ages the Sciences and in all of them succeeded.

His work began with the study of the works of the great Greek sages. Giving comments to them, he tried to bring their thoughts in plain language to a wide range of people. Sometimes he had to present it in your own words. Another scientific method, which was used by al-Farabi – analysis of the great treatises of antiquity with a detailed summary of their contents. It is possible to define on the manuscripts, where the Arab scientist was writing, which can be divided into 3 types:

  • Extensive review, based on the saying of an ancient sage with a detailed explanation of what the author wanted to say. This work was carried out with each Chapter or section of the treatise.
  • The Average review, which was taken only the first sentence of the original, but everything else was the explanation of al-Farabi. Biography of the scientist does not convey the essence of this work.
  • A Small comment can be called a presentation of ancient works on their behalf. While al-Farabi was able to combine several of the works of Aristotle or of Plato, to convey to students a sense of their philosophy.

 Abu Nasr al-Farabi's short biography

Study and commentary on these works has not only contributed to their promotion in the broad masses of the people, but also guided the thought of the Arab scholar to further reflect on those philosophical questions.

Contributions to the development of science

Thanks to al-Farabi has started a new direction of development of Sciences and arts of the time. Known for his writings on such subjects as philosophy, music, astronomy, mathematics, logic, natural Sciences, Philology and others. His scientific work influenced medieval scientists such as Ibn Sina, Ibn Baja, Ibn Rushd andother. Today there are about 130 works of the scientist, he is also credited with organizing and establishing a library in Otrar.

Biography of al-Farabi in the Russian language indicates that he was able to review and comment on nearly all the works Aristotle, and also such sages as Ptolemy (“al”), Alexander Afrodiziaki (“soul”) and Euclid ("Geometry)”. Although the ancient Greek treatises influenced the development of philosophical and scientific thought al-Farabi, a large part of his works – his mental research and practical experiments.

The Philosophical works of al-Farabi

All scientific work of the Arab scientist can be divided into several types:

  • Philosophical work, which was devoted to the laws of the universe, their properties and categories.
  • Writings, which dealt with aspects of human activities and ways of knowing the world.
  • Treatise on the matter, study its properties, such categories as time and space. These include works on mathematics, geometry and astronomy.

biography of al-Farabi in Russian

For his 80 years of life, al-Farabi left a great legacy which in many respects was ahead of its time. Not ceased to be relevant to his work in our time.

The Basis of life according to the teachings of al-Farabi

Great scientist laid the foundations of a new philosophy, according to which everything that exists in the world, is divided into 6 steps, that are linked by causal relations:

  • The First step – it is the underlying cause of all things, why and by whom it was conceived.
  • The Second – the appearance of all.
  • Third level – is an active and developing mind.
  • The Fourth soul.
  • Fifth step – form.
  • Sixth – matter.

These stages form the basis of all that surrounds man and the scientist divides them into 2 kinds:

  • Things and status, which he called “perhaps a mere”, as their nature is not always caused by the necessity of their existence.
  • Second, on the contrary, always exist by themselves and are called “necessary things”.

The Root cause of all al-Farabi (brief biography and introduction to his works indicate this) was called God, because only he has the integrity and uniqueness, while the remaining steps are the multiplicity.

The Second reason – it is the origin of the planets and other celestial bodies, which by their nature differ from terrestrial forms. The third step of al-Farabi determined the cosmic mind, which cares for nature and aims to bring the world to perfection.

Last 3 steps are connected with our world, and the scientist they paid close attention. He separated the functions of God from what happens in the material world, thereby limiting its interference in people's lives, giving them free will. He was able to adopt the power of matter, giving it eternity.

The Relationship of form and matter

A Lot of attention to scientist paid to the relationship of form and matter. For example, he gives the interpretation of the form as integrity of structure, and matter – as the essence and basis of all things. He pointed out that the form can only exist due to the presence of matter and can not be out of the body. Matter, in turn – the substrate, which must be filled with content (the form). About this great scholar writes in his work the “matter” and “Treatise about the views of inhabitants of the city”.

God

The Attitude of al-Farabi was more scientific than religious. Many followers of the scientist, and then religious Arab leaders, claimed that he was a true Muslim who obeyed the traditions of Islam. But the writings of the sage say that he tried to know God, not to believe blindly in him.

Abu Nasr al Farabi biography

No Wonder the scientist of this level was buried without the participation in the procession of the clergy. Too bold statements were made by al-Farabi on the structure of the world and all things.

The doctrine of the ideal city-state

A Lot of attention to scientist paid to such aspects of life as happiness, morality, war and state policy. To them he dedicated the following work:

  • “a treatise on the pursuit of happiness";
  • “the path of happiness";
  • “a Treatise on war and peace";
  • “a treatise on the ideas of inhabitants of the city";
  • “Civil politics”;
  • “a Treatise on the study of society”;
  • “the virtuous morals”.

All of them touch on such important during the brutal middle ages in the aspects of love to the neighbour, the immorality of wars and the natural human desire for happiness.

If you combine these works, we can draw this conclusion from the philosophy of the author: people should live in a world of goodness and justice, striving for spiritual development and scientific education. He invented the city in which the office is under the supervision of sages and philosophers, and its inhabitants do good and condemn evil. In contrast, the ideal society, the author describes the city, ruled by envy, desire for wealth andlack of spirituality. For its time it was quite daring political and moral views.

About music

Being talented in everything, al-Farabi (biography in the Kazakh language confirms this) devoted a lot of time to musicology. So, he gave the concept of musical sounds, describe their nature and find out what categories and items construct any piece of music.

al-Farabi's short biography

This brought the study and composition of music to a new level. He introduced other peoples ' music of the East, leaving behind tracts “the Word about music” and “On the classification of rhythms". Unlike the schools of the Pythagoreans, on which a hearing is not meant to distinguish sounds, and are important in this calculation, al-Farabi believed that listening allows you to identify the sounds and connect them in harmony.

The Doctrine of the knowledge

One of the important aspects of the scientist is to study such categories as mind and knowledge. He talks about the origin of knowledge about their reality, about how a person perceives the reality. For example, the nature of al-Farabi considered a subject for study, because all the knowledge people get from the outside, watching the world go by. Comparing various properties of things and phenomena, analyzing them, one gains understanding.

Thus was formed the science, which people began to understand more deeply the world around us. He talks about the mental powers of man, that is about his psyche, how people perceive the smells, see colors and feel various emotions. It is very deep in its content the work, including “wisdom”, where the author examines categories such as likes and dislikes, as well as their causes.

Logic as a form of knowledge

The Scientist paid much attention to this science, like logic. He considered her special property of the mind, which helped people to judge truth and to approve its experimental way. The art of logic, al-Farabi – is the ability to separate the false from the true by using evidence that was not at all peculiar religious tenets and beliefs.

Abu Nasr al Farabi biography

The Scholars of the East and other countries supported his work “Introduction to logic” and “an Introductory treatise on logic”. Logic – it is a tool by which people can get knowledge about reality. So it was considered a great scientist.

The Memory of the great scientist

Nowadays, not only Arab, but also the whole scientific world honors the memory of this great man. For example, there is about al-Farabi's biography in the Kazakh, dedicated to him the streets of the cities and the universities. In Almaty and Turkestan monuments, and 1975 was celebrated the 1100-anniversary of the birth of al-Farabi. Biography (kazaksha) not only of the greatness of the wisdom of this man.
