Idioms –… it would Seem that this is the right beginning of the article about phraseology. I will not argue, but still I do not want just to quote the main points and once again to repeat the theory, and to look at this issue differently, at least to start. So I'll start with the unusual. What is the word? On this question, any average student will answer this way: "the Word is a noun neuter, 2nd declension, inanimate". Stop, stop, stop. This begs a new question. Yes, indeed, it is inanimate-in other words, a soulless creature not breathing, not alive. But how is it then possible that word penetrate deep, inspiring or, on the contrary, demolished hopes, killed, lived and died. Why one word exists, and the other lives and breathes? How to spice up word? How to breathe life into it? I think to give the answers idioms…Idioms –….
In linguistics there is a whole section that deals with the study of idioms or phraseological revs – phraseology. So you can only imagine how this phenomenon is profound in nature and broad in application. Now, science offers us the following interpretation: idiom-is a stable phrase, turnover, consisting of several words, the total value of which does not correspond with the meanings of the constituent words of the components (the phrase "to leave in circulation" - to stop the active activity in which the meanings of the words "exit" and "circulation" are not correlated with the common value). Now consider everything in order. All phraseological units are characterized by the following set of characteristics:

The Origin of idioms
Returning to the above, we can draw one conclusion. Idioms – it is the living word both literally and figuratively. When and who breathed life into them? The answer is simple and obvious – the soul of man. Only she is able to create. Only she is able to create eternal. A simple word consisting of a set of letters and sounds, it is impossible to describe what was going on in the soul of man, that state, those feelings, those emotions and feelings. A simple word merely States the fact: for example, "to be rich" - the person is the owner of a large amount of money, and that's all that can be learned. And now let's compare it with the phrase "bathe in gold". Feel the difference? It clearly conveys the inner state of a person when he has a lot of wealth. Here, delight, and bliss, and a kind of impossible happiness.
How is this process of recovery? It's hard to say. We can only guess. Many idioms were born from the songs, tales, legends, myths and parables: "milk river, milk and honey", "twiddle", "kudykina Gora". They reflect the history of people, traditions, customs, culture: "empty-handed", "my mother passed", "scraps from the master's table", a "sleeves rolled up".
The idiomatic phrases and sayings that finds talented writers, spectacular quotes by famous people. Some momentum came in the process of borrowing from other languages and cultures, from the Bible, based on vivid images of Greco-Roman myths, etc.: "Sisyphean task", "alter ego", "the Augean stables", "manna from heaven".
Like all living things, some idioms become obsolete and die in their place come new – "to the registration" - to obtain the right to exist; "Pavlik Morozov" traitor, little Judas, "shock therapy"; "shadow economy". In this endless world of idioms can be confusing, especially to those who study foreign languages. It is important to remember that idioms cannot be translated literally. And the rest – the main way is to the Dictionary of Phraseology, which gives an explanation of the 20 thousand expressions.Who needs
And finally - someone has a question may arise: "why do we need idioms? Why complicate it and to burden the texts of the cumbersome phrases that actually can be replaced by one word?" To this question I have another: "why do we need spices, herbs, seasonings? It is enough to slice, fry, boil-and the dish is ready". However, with aromatic spices and pungent seasonings, the preparation of each dish becomes a real art when the familiar becomes unique. Idioms – these are the same spices that can fill the text indescribable flavors and give it a special taste.
